Position Summary

Technical position for an individual with strong mechanical background and experience with medical device and/or pharmaceutical processing equipment, mechanical refrigeration systems, and programmable logic controller/PC systems to maintain and repair Teleflex Blood Products processing equipment and supporting facility systems. As part of the Manufacturing Technology section of the Blood Products Technical Services group, the technician will operate, maintain, and repair equipment such as freeze dryers, chillers, sealer/welder units, incubators, gloveboxes, DI water systems, basic boiler, medical grade washer, and lab equipment.

The work involved is almost entirely indoors in temperature and humidity-controlled environments and biopharma cleanroom manufacturing rooms with PPE gowning requirements. Documentation duties include the completion of equipment logbook entries, unplanned maintenance summary reports, maintenance notebook entries, and manufacturing batch record documentation. Experience with good manufacturing practices (GMP) processing and documentation requirements for regulated industrial pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device, or food processing is desired.

The position will support first shift operations with a typical 40-hour per week schedule and occasional overtime needs.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Independently perform and monitor the 4 most common lyophilizer programs (Production Runs, Decontaminate, Vacuum Integrity and Defrost).
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance actions on manufacturing and utilities equipment used for Blood Products production.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair manufacturing and utilities equipment used in Blood Products operations.
  • Assist in equipment modifications and installations as directed.
  • Support in the design and execution of equipment qualifications.
Complete documentation requirements (e.g. logbooks, unplanned maintenance forms, reports, batch record checklists) for performed maintenance actions in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Independently update Maintenance Control documents as required to reflect current maintenance requirements, practices, and procedures.
  • Assist Operations, Process Development, R&D, and Software Validation to provide maintenance support in the implementation of validation/qualification projects.
Education / Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required. Engineering or technical academic training preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with maintaining and repairing industrial grade equipment.
  • 3 years of HVAC troubleshooting and repair with a focus on refrigeration, or production scale freeze dryer operation and repair.
  • Experience with electronics and automated controls (e.g. PLC, PC, SCADA, BMS systems) associated with manufacturing and environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook or similar) experience required.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
  • Effective candidate will demonstrate initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • EPA/HVAC Section 608 certification preferred.
  • High Pressure Boiler license preferred (must be willing to prepare for and pass test within 1 year if not already licensed-Special is acceptable).
  • Hepatitis B Vaccination or waiver required (will provide) for working in environments with human blood plasma.
  • Strong electromechanical troubleshooting ability required.
  • Experience with safe mechanical/electrical working practices including lock out/tag out procedures.
