SUMMARY

This position is responsible for oversight of all activities in the operations area of the European Imports facility, including the shipping and receiving functions, inventory management and labor management. Performs all duties safely, accurately and assists to establish and meet productivity goals. The associate must possess excellent employee and customer relations management skills, time management skills and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written, at all levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate and reinforce policies and procedures (Preferred Work Methods and Best Business Practices) to ensure associates are trained in safety, job knowledge, and attainment of performance standards.
  • Assist in the planning and establishment of European Imports\' operational goals and the development of the means to achieve those goals.
  • Purchase supplies and assist in determining material handling equipment (MHE) replacements, additional requirements, and purchases.
  • Maintain working knowledge of SWMS (Sysco Warehouse Management System) systems including slotting, receiving, shipping, inventory management and labor management.
  • Oversee the monitoring of workflow, balance staff between all work areas to maintain an even flow and monitor productivity and volume using the labor management system.
  • Monitor all warehouse associate\'s productivity (labor management) and work with warehouse supervisors to perform associate evaluations on an on-going basis to coach them on expectations, reward above average performance, and identify and coach poor performance levels. Publish monthly thru put reporting for management.
  • Oversee scheduling and ensure personnel required to accomplish all warehousing activities are in place.
  • Oversee training of associates for equipment certifications and maintain accurate records to ensure all designated associates are certified on appropriate equipment, and that all equipment certifications remain current.
  • Oversee cross training of associates to work in other warehouse functions and areas which include inventory control functions, loading, unloading, receiving, put-away, selecting, and packing on an as qualified and as needed basis.
  • Interview, hire, and train associates, evaluate performance, reward and coach associates as well as administer corrective action up to termination, if necessary.
  • Communicate any proposed changes in policies and/or processes to the Senior Manager, Warehouse/VP, Central Warehouse for review and approval before implementing changes. Follows up to confirm compliance with approved process and policy changes.
  • Operates MHE such as forklifts and pallet jacks in a safe and orderly manner to eliminate accidents and injuries.
  • Observes and enforces all safety rules to eliminate accidents and injuries.
  • Uses warehouse computers and radio frequency (RF) equipment in a safe and professional manner.
  • Responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of European Imports.
  • Understands and complies with all applicable company policies (i.e. attendance, Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, Associate Handbook, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable State/Federal laws, regulations, and policies (i.e., OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration), AIB (American Institute of Baking), etc.).
  • Supports food safety policies, standard operating procedures and prerequisite food safety control programs that meet legal and quality requirements and industry best practices as defined in our Food Safety Commitment documentation.
  • Observe proper lifting techniques and physical work practices as defined in the Preferred Work Methods documentation.
  • Perform other warehouse duties and accept additional responsibilities or special projects as requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing direction and leadership to the European Imports associates and supervisors as well as ongoing communication of related status and issues to upper management in accordance with European Imports policies and procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.

  • Internal associates must currently be in a supervisory position to qualify for this position.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have strong management and associate relations skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Suite (Excel and Word) required.
  • Strong warehouse management systems and PC skills required.
  • Must be analytical and detail oriented.
  • Must have ability to plan and organize work and time, analyze, and disseminate numerical data, follow policies and procedures, possess basic math skills, and identify and solve problems.
  • Must have a strong sense of urgency and be able to effectively perform in a multi-tasking environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to manage confidential information.
  • Good interpersonal and supervisory skills required.
  • Must pass a functional capacity test.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required; bachelor\'s degree preferred. A minimum of five years warehouse management related experience required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must have effective written and oral communication skills with good vocabulary, proper grammar, and the ability to independently compose written communication.

Must have ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers is also required. Must be articulate and effective with written and verbal communication with individuals of broadly varying backgrounds and educational levels. Must have the ability to maintain cooperation between all departments of the operation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

It is expected that the incumbent will be able to work in a proactive manner, address issues, and solve problems by using previous education and experience in identifying appropriate actions. Problems will vary in complexity and there will not always be a clearly defined solution. Some solutions may require modifying past applications or creating a solution unique to the current situation but within the regulations that would apply.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certification on material handling equipment is required, or the ability to become certified.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Job duties are performed in a warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to fast moving material handling equipment or other mechanical equipment. The associate is frequently exposed to variable temperatures and humid conditions, vehicle emissions; and is infrequently exposed to contained toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment usually is loud.

WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position. The incumbent must have the ability to work a varying schedule which might include shift work (days or nights), weekdays or weekends, and some holidays. Work hours may vary, or change based on customer order requirements.

TRAVEL

Some travel is required to support the business needs of European Imports.
