Job Summary:

The manager of Laboratory Services reports to the Director of Laboratory Services and Diagnostic Imaging and is responsible to work with the supervisors and leads for the supervision and operation of the Day Kimball Laboratory\'s technical, clerical, specimen processing, lab information system, and phlebotomy on a daily basis Utilizes clinical and operational expertise to lead, support, and supervise personnel to ensure that Laboratory standards are met and quality patient care is delivered. Demonstrates specific behaviors in the areas of leadership, operational efficiency, staff development, safety and personal professionalism.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees the effective day-to-day operation of the Laboratory.

In conjunction with the Director of Lab and DI, completes performance appraisals, follows up on staff achievement, counsels and/or educates as required.

Serves as a positive role model for change by promoting and supporting changes initiated in the Laboratory.

Identifies quality improvement opportunities and in conjunction with the Director of Lab and DI initiates and follows through on appropriate strategies.

Serves as a clinical resource person for staff members, providing leadership and supporting staff development.

Incorporates critical thinking and establishes priorities in decisions about patient care in Laboratory operations.

Assists the Director of Lab and DI in budget preparation and implementation of cost-saving initiatives.

Ensures a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Acts as a patient and staff advocate.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to organize and coordinate patient care in the Laboratory.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in leadership and operational skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish good working relationships.
  • Demonstrates high-level verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to cope with and function under stress
  • Meets skill requirements for the Laboratory.
Qualifications:

Education:

A. Education:
  • Baccalaureate degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology, or Biological Science required.
B. Experience:

Seven years current hospital laboratory technical experience required.

\'Minimum of three years\' experience in a leadership position required.
