Job Summary

Position is responsible for supervising designated Pharmacy Department personnel and for filling and labeling prescriptions and providing drug-related information to inpatients and outpatients. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles

Memorial Hermann Memorial City seeks a Pharmacy Operations Manager to join our growing team.

This position will have oversight and management of medication use process, central/decentralized pharmacy operations, and inventory in a 440-bed community medical center (MHMC).

The operations manager will support a wide variety of specialty services, including: a DNV designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Joint Commission certified Chest Pain program, dedicated Children\'s Emergency Center, an OB Emergency Center, as well as a Center for Advanced Heart Failure. Joint fiscal oversight with Director of Pharmacy and additional pharmacy leaders for controllable expenses. Direct reports will include approximately 45 workforce members to include technicians, resource specialists, integrated clinical pharmacists, pharmacy and technician student learners, and residents (primarily PGY1 with support of PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Leadership program).

Preferred skills and experience include the following:

  • Knowledge of unit dose and IV sterile compounding (USP 797)
  • Knowledge of non-sterile compounding regulations (USP 795)
  • Knowledge of hazardous medication regulations (USP 800)
  • Previous experience in inventory management and 340B program
  • Previous experience with controlled substance monitoring and diversion auditing.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy.

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Sterile Product certification through an in-house program or other accredited program required.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Five (5) years pharmacy experience required, two (2) of which as a hospital pharmacist.
  • Previous pharmacy management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of unit dose and IV additives required.
  • Requires ability to work with health care personnel associated with the Pharmacy department; ability to apply personnel policies and procedures; strong customer service skills; ability to develop and direct pharmacy clinical and educational programs; ability to facilitate and lead work groups; and ability to plan and manage the utilization of resources.
  • Requires knowledge of pharmacy and hospital computer systems and computer-assisted devices and familiarity with health care reimbursement environment

Principal Accountabilities
  • Supervises and manages the activities of all department employees in consultation with the Department Director, assuming responsibility in the director\'s absence.
  • Fills/labels prescriptions, providing drug-related information to inpatients and outpatients according to the needs/age of the patient/patient population being served.
  • Dispenses controller substances and supplies to nursing departments; conducts inventory and maintains appropriate inventory records; maintains the scheduling and preparation of IV solutions and additives; adheres to state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy, maintaining records as required.
  • Maintains medication profiles and reviews for drug-related problems.
  • At the director\'s request, represents the department at organization meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
