POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Worker II

STATUS: Nonexempt, fulltime

WAGE RANGE: $29.90 - $34.35

Position Summary

:




Completes general maintenance, repairs, and remodels on all tribal facilities to keep Cowlitz properties in proper working order, including new construction involving building substrates. Honors and represents the mission, vision, values of CIT and the Public Works department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



Remodels offices, including demolition, removal of walls, sheet rock, insulation, and electrical; moves office furniture; hangs pictures and whiteboards. Repairs and replaces sheet rock and drywall, including stud installation, hanging, mudding, and sanding. Updates and installs new electrical outlets and switches. Prepares layouts and erects framework for structures, including walls, partitions, and cabinetwork. Completes repairs on building components such as stairs, ramps, partitions, and cabinetry. Completes repairs and installation of ceiling grid systems. Textures, primes, and paints walls. Lays new flooring. Installs toilets and sinks; unclogs toilets and sinks; replaces soap and towel dispensers. Completes repairs and polishing of solid surface building elements such as countertops. Completes general furniture repairs that do not require fabrication or custom staining. Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, door frames, weather stripping, and interior and exterior trim, and finishes hardware. Assists in forming and pouring concrete slabs. Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Ensures proper barricading and signage is in place when working around patrons or in other departments to maintain a safe perimeter around work areas; installs and removes fencing. Mows grass, pulls weeds, and completes general landscaping of building grounds. Provides excellent customer service for internal and external customers of the operations. Maintains confidential information. May be responsible for taking lead of various projects. Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. Performs other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Knowledge of grounds keeping, maintenance, and repairs. Knowledge of a variety of carpentry equipment operation such as saws, drills, planers, routers, and assorted power tools. Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices. Knowledge of safety codes and procedures. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures. Skill in effectively communicating issues, concerns, and solutions in a concise manner. Ability to read building codes and layouts, construction drawings, and blueprints. Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to use hand tools and equipment. Ability to use maintenance connection software. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to work independently, prioritize, and accomplish tasks within strict deadlines. Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:



High School Diploma/GED. Must be 18 years of age. Two + years related experience required. Completion of trade school helpful. Obtain and maintain CPR/AED Certifications within one year of hire date. Valid driver's license is required when driving vehicles for work-related purposes. Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.



Tribal preference in accordance with Cowlitz Indian Tribe Code and CIT Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook shall apply to all positions. All positions are required to adhere to CIT's established safety policies regarding vaccine requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).






Background Investigation Requirements:



Pre-employment drug screen. Reference checks, education and employment verification. Federal, state, and/or tribal criminal history and sanction checks.



Physical Demands:




While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand and walk; to use hands, wrists, and fingers to operate computer and repair equipment; and to reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally is required to talk, hear, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb. Normal visual acuity is required by this job. The employee frequently will lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.


Work Environment:




Work is generally performed in an interior setting and in an outdoor environment. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and cleaning agents will occur. Exposure to unpleasant odors, bodily fluids, infectious disease, or hazardous material will occur. Situations occur where protective clothing, equipment, devices, and materials are needed. Noise level is usually moderate to excessive. Evening work and overnight travel may be required.
