Under the supervision of the Facilities Coordinator, the Maintenance Technician performs general and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair activities related to City Facilities. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with occasional availability for weekend emergencies. The City has an excellent benefits package including: (see benefit tab for complete list)

Essential Job Functions

• Maintains City buildings, libraries, pools, city parks, public restrooms, the public works complex. Work includes exterior maintenance, drywall repairs, painting, door repair, lighting, and other similar tasks
• Performs trash removal and recycling from city sites including parks, downtown area, community center and walking trails
• Removes snow from around City buildings, crosswalks, and bus stops
• Performs minor plumbing and electrical maintenance and repairs
• Assists in the oversight of custodial contractor service to ensure all duties are performed according to contract.
• Completes timesheets and maintains daily work logs of projects completed and the equipment, vehicles, and materials used
• Responds to inquiries and requests constructively and represents the department in a positive manner
• Perform corrective improvements and building maintenance
• Adheres to all applicable safety procedures while operating equipment and tools, working with chemicals or electrical sources, accessing confined spaces, and while working in other dangerous situations
• Utilizes tools and equipment including but not limited to power tools, hand tools, pressure washers, and paint sprayers
• Supervises the daily tasks ensuring standards are being met

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to pass a skills test to determine proficiency of the skills listed above

• State of Michigan Vehicle Operator\'s License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment
• High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years of skilled trades experience performing installation, maintenance of repair work: OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Ability to walk others through maintenance processes including but not limited to, the replacement of ballasts, repair and replacement of urinals/toilets, shower cartridge replacement, and other related activities
• Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with employees, City officials, professional contacts, community leaders, the media, and the public
• Operation and maintenance of a variety of hand, power, and shop tools
• Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities with little or no supervision
• Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work
• Basic practices of equipment of the plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry trades.
• Ability to perform maintenance and minor repair to a variety of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and other facility operating systems
• Ability to recognize potentially hazardous situations on the job site and take appropriate action
• Basic skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and other related software
• Ability to work in a variety of environments
• Occasional heavy lifting, climbing, working on ladders.
• Ability to effectively manage time to complete jobs with minimal supervision
• Able to recognize areas of concern and resolve them without oversight or report to supervise when necessary
