This is a responsible, specialized, lead position performing a wide variety of maintenance and administrative duties involving park maintenance, street maintenance, utility maintenance, and planning. Work involves acting as the lead worker on projects, resource planning, and ordering parts, materials, and equipment needed for project completion. Maintenance Specialists maintain work order records for their areas of work specializations and plan work within budgetary constraints.



Open Maintenance Specialist positions fall under the following divisions within the Public Service Department:Water Sewer Streets

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the general direction of management staff. Project assignments may also be given by upper management depending on the nature of the work. This position may serve as crew leader and/or lead worker.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

Train, guides, and leads a work crew on a project or shift; completes necessary related paperwork, orders materials, tools, equipment, and requests additional personnel to complete the work. Recommends course of action for correction of crew performance problems to management as needed Operates heavy equipment and tools associated with the work; landscaping, sewer and water line maintenance, tree trimming, and street maintenance Orders and records all labor, materials, vehicles, and equipment used in the daily performance of maintenance work for the purposes of monthly progress reporting Develops and coordinates volunteer projects, works as a liaison between other city departments, the general public, outside agencies, contractors, and volunteer organizations as needed Maintains current files of all chemical applications and MSDS sheets; instructs crews in the safe application of chemicals and the "Right to Know". Keeps records of all chemical and material applications in compliance with OSHA and Ohio Department of Agriculture regulations Performs all aspects of tree maintenance; street maintenance; sewer and water line maintenance, landscape maintenance, turf, tree waterway, pond, and park maintenance as required Recommends course of action on work projects to management. Plans work within the fiscal limits set by a predetermined budget. Forecasts future needs for budgeting labor and materials based upon past experiences with similar projects Organizes data for reports, purchase requisitions, vendor quotations, and presentations for management and give status reports on long term assignments. May coordinate work with other city departments for projects completion Provides and fulfills stand-by staffing needs responding to after hours call outs Responds to emergency call-ins as needed Acts as the lead repair person (in the hole), shut down procedures, head flusher / cleaning and maintenance, lead structure / masonry (manholes, inlets), lead sign maintenance program, and/or lead programer (special events, leaves, snow/brine, cemetery, and trash) Performs other related duties as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Possession at the time of appointment of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Advanced higher education in related field preferred. Professional certifications, licensing, training and experience is required. Must have three or more years of work related experience in the area of specialization needed to perform the work. Demonstrated supervisory experience is required Possession of valid Ohio commercial driver's license Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, bend, walk extended distances, work outdoors in all weather conditions, perform work overhead, and the ability to perform heavy manual labor Ability to use computer software to generate reports, store data, prepare simple documents, and communicate by email as required Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, including training others to complete the work, giving instructions to less qualified employees when needed Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with citizens, vendors and departmental staff is needed Ability to work within all standard safety practices associated with the trade in order to maintain a safe working environment Considerable knowledge of traffic laws, safe traffic set up for road work, regulations applicable to the operation of motor vehicles and heavy equipment. Ability to calculate formulas and calibrate settings for chemical application

The City pays 100% of the premium for dental and vision through the Steelworkers Health and Welfare Fund.



LIFE INSURANCE



The City pays 100% of the premium on a $100,000 life insurance policy for employee and $10,000 for spouse and $5,000 for child.



RETIREMENT PENSION



The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System.



VACATION



Employees two weeks of paid vacation after completing one-year probationary period.



PERSONAL LEAVE

Employees receive 6 prorated days of personal leave annually.
