Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC)

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for Maintenance Mechanic 4 (MM4) with focus on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) at Airway Heights Corrections Center, located in Airway Heights, WA. This is a Monday through Friday, forty (40) hour per week position, that pays overtime over the eight (8) hour work day.

AHCC is a 2000+ bed male facility located approximately 10 miles west of Spokane, WA. The prison consists of a main facility that houses medium- and long-term minimum-custody offenders. A separate perimeter adjacent to the main facility accommodates a minimum-security unit for offenders with minimum-custody or lower.

Duties

Reporting to the Construction Maintenance Project Supervisor (CMPS), this position supervises and performs work with an incarcerated individual (I/I) work crew in the maintenance and repair of HVAC, kitchen, laundry, and other equipment and systems, that support living conditions and the mission of the maintenance department and AHCC to provide for public safety. The work includes but is not limited to:

  • Direct, supervise, train, instruct, and work with a work crew of 3 to 10 I/I in the performance of skilled electrical and mechanical work on the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, natural gas systems and equipment, kitchen, laundry, pneumatic, electronic, and other systems and equipment.
  • Use and care for HVAC controls, computers, and system tools.
  • Maintain and repair small appliances, compressors, ice machines, plumbing, hydronic, and hydraulic systems and equipment.
  • Supervise I/I work crews performing preventive maintenance on equipment and system components.
  • Responsible to maintain accurate records and documents for tool control, I/I supervisory files, safety compliance, work reporting, materials use and requisition, equipment requisition, and other required record keeping.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Possess a Universal Certification to handle refrigerants, and a Gas Heating Mechanic II License. (Note: must possess one at time of appointment and obtain the other within 12 months of employment)
  • Two years of verifiable journey level employment in one or more of the mechanical trades.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to safely lift 60 pounds.
  • Possess a valid driver\'s license.
Desired Qualifications::
  • Possess a current EL01, EL06A, or EL07 Electrical License as issued by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.
