Job Description




The Office of Maine Refugee Services (OMRS) at Catholic Charities Maine in Portland is seeking a Full-Time Maine Refugee Housing Coordinator. Definition: To develop innovative long-term housing options for new ORR-eligible clients, and to identify emergency housing assistance for refugees, asylees, humanitarian parolees and other newcomer communities in the state of Maine. The OMRS Refugee Housing Coordinator (OMRS RHC) will be responsible for the identification of resources, development of innovative models, assessment of needs, negotiation for better and more housing opportunities, planning and linking to resources, monitoring, evaluation, and support of local resettlement agencies\' housing activities. The goal of this position is to coordinate and engage with a variety of stakeholders to develop affordable, safe, and healthy housing supply. This position will require driving to multiple locations as well as working in an office setting and at other sites. Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree with a major in social work, business, or a related field or a minimum of a high school diploma with previous experience in real estate, property management, affordable housing, homeless services, utility administrative services or equivalent job experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience working in the refugee services field, in a public benefits program, or in property management.
  • Experience with developing housing resources and/or placing clients in housing is preferred.
  • Should have a knowledge of HUD, federal, state and local laws and regulations related to housing and utilities.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to interpret and adhere to established policies and procedures; knowledge of the field of refugee resettlement; must be able to focus on details and ensure accuracy in reporting and presenting information to high-level stakeholders; and complete internet research with a high comfort level in working with computer systems.
  • Language skills in Arabic, Dari, Pashto, French or other languages are a plus.
