Job Description

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for operating fabrication machines such as cutoff saws, power shears, and NC power brake presses, spinning machines that cut, shape, and bend metal sheets and tubes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Reads engineering drawings and work orders to determine machine settings and materials to be used.

Sets machine stops and/or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scale, rule, or template.

Installs tooling into machines as needed.

Positions parts against stops or aligns layout marks with dies or blades.

Uses palm buttons or foot pedals to activate machines.

Observes machine operation to detect part defects or machine malfunction.

Verifies dimensions of part using dial or electronic calipers, calls for first article inspection when required before continuing to next part.

Makes adjustments to stops or guides when required.

Verifies dimensions of part on random samples throughout the production run.

Makes adjustments as needed.

Parts that do not meet requirements are set aside to be scraped per inventory control policies.

Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from part when required.

Performs minor machine and die maintenance such as cleaning, oiling machine and sharpening dies.

Alerts supervisor of all machine malfunctions.

Removes punch slugs and discards properly as needed.

Keeps machine and surrounding area clean and uncluttered and keeps machine adjustment tools in safe organized location.

Completes weekly written machine maintenance logs.

Observes all safety procedures and uses all personal safety equipment required.

Uses all safety guards supplied for the machines.

Does not modify or remove safety equipment and/or guards at anytime during operation of the machine.

Discontinues operation of any machine that has any malfunctioning safety equipment and/or guards.

Reports any such malfunction of safety equipment and/or guards to the supervisor.

Reports any unsafe conditions or activities observed to supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:



This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:



High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other skills required:

o Must possess knowledge of operation of hands tools such as wrenches, screw drivers, hammers, and files as well as power equipment such as shears, brake presses, punch presses, drill presses, blade saws, band saws, wood working equipment such as panel saws and hand-held routers.

o Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.

o Must be able to communicate verbally in English.

o Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using a calculator.

o Able to calculate square footage and linier footage of raw materials.

Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
