Position Overview
We are hiring a
full-time Mechanical Design Engineer
responsible for the design and development of industrial converting machinery. This role requires strong 3D modeling skills using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks, mechanical design experience, and the ability to work from concept through production.
This is a
hands-on engineering role
where your designs will be built on our shop floor, tested, and deployed to customers.
Responsibilities
Design mechanical equipment based on specifications from the sales/engineering team
Create 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks)
Develop and maintain assemblies, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Select and size mechanical components (bearings, drives, pneumatics, power transmission, etc.)
Work with vendors to specify and procure purchased components
Support the assembly team by preparing documentation and answering technical questions
Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement of existing products
Qualifications
Required:
Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent experience) with background in machine design or machinery manufacturing
Strong SolidWorks 3D modeling/drafting experience
Knowledge of mechanical components, power transmission, pneumatics, and industrial hardware
Ability to read/interpret specifications and turn them into complete design packages
Good problem-solving skills and a willingness to take ownership of projects
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and familiar with AutoCAD
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel occasionally to our Philadelphia, PA manufacturing facility
Preferred (not required):
Experience with converting equipment, web handling, or automation systems
Basic awareness of electrical systems, sensors, and controls
Previous exposure to custom machinery or OEM environments
