The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) seeking an experienced

General Manager

to lead the operations, maintenance, and staff of the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center (LBAFC). The GM ensures full compliance with the Arlington County Water Facilities Ordinance and all state and federal regulations, while developing innovative recreational programs that meet community needs and maximizes use of all center amenities.


The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center includes a 50-meter pool with diving boards and a whirlpool. The 50-meter pool is World Aquatics (formerly FINA) complaint for long and short course competitive swimming, water polo, and synchronized swimming. The facility also houses a leisure pool, which includes a splash pad for tots and a water slide. In addition, the center has an 8,000-sq. ft. fitness center with an open fitness area for cardio and weight training and an area for group fitness classes in an exercise studio as well as multiple community rooms available to reserve for meetings and gatherings. General Manager Responsibilities:



Develops and implements staff policies, procedures, and maintenance plans in coordination with technical staff; Supervises a team of full-time, part-time, and temporary personnel. Manages operational budgets, including personnel and non-personnel expenditures. Serves as the primary liaison for community engagement, membership services, facility rentals, and partnerships; Leads marketing initiatives to increase membership and revenue through programs and large events; Collaborates with DPR staff to design and schedule wet and dry programming, and support registration operations; and Tracks performance metrics and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess:



Thorough knowledge of pool systems including: filtration systems, chemical feeding systems, heating systems, and pool pumps. Considerable knowledge of recreation program design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Knowledge of RecTrac, or similar reservation and registration systems. Writing skills to compose and edit reports, proposals, procedures, policies, recommendations, etc. Proven ability to oversee fiscal responsibilities and large budgets.

Minimums:



Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports, Facilities, or Business Management or a related leisure field; and Significant and progressively responsible experience in recreation administration, recreation programming, or a related field.

Substitution:

Additional education may be substituted for experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education.


Desirable

: Preference may be given to those with a Master Degree in related field or experience in one or more of the following:


5+ years managing competitive or recreational facilities and programs in a local government setting; 5+ year's event management experience; RecTrac or similar web-based scheduling, registration, and payment system; Working in an aquatic setting, including lifeguarding and best practices related to pool safety; Facility reservation and registration experience; and Experience managing a large and diverse staff.
Possession of one or more of the following

Certification

s preferred:


Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP); Facility Management Professional (FMP); Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO); and Certified Pool Operator (CPO).

Employee must possess valid Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or similar credential or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.


The selected candidate must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicants driving record.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION



Work Hours

: Monday - Sunday, hours vary between 4:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., depending on scheduling needs, which will include some nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
