Job Overview


We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Loader Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible to work alongside of Snow Plow Drivers and Shovelers to strategically clear and remove snow from roads, parking lots, driveways, and other areas during snowstorms and winter weather conditions. This role involves using the loader to move snow efficiently, assist with snow pile management, and ensure safe and accessible conditions for both vehicles and pedestrians. The Loader Operator is expected to work in extreme winter weather, responding quickly and efficiently to maintain clear paths and reduce hazards caused by snow accumulation.

Key Responsibilities:



Snow Removal Operations:



Operate front-end loaders or other heavy machinery to load, move, and stack snow in designated areas during and after snowstorms. Use the loader to clear snow from roadways, parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and other areas as required. Assist with snow removal by moving snow piles from areas that are congested or pose safety risks. Work in coordination with other snow removal operators to ensure timely and efficient snow clearing operations.

Area Management:



Follow assigned priorities, ensuring snow is cleared efficiently and in a timely manner. Prioritize high-traffic areas or areas with significant snow accumulation to ensure safety and minimize disruptions. Ensure the loader operates in a safe and controlled manner while navigating through narrow spaces, high-traffic zones, and obstacles.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:



Operate loaders with precision, ensuring proper lifting, dumping, and snow stacking techniques. Perform routine inspections and maintenance on the loader and related equipment before and after each shift, ensuring they are in good working condition. Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns with equipment to supervisors in a timely manner. Perform basic maintenance tasks such as greasing, fueling, and checking fluid levels on the loader.

Safety Compliance:



Adhere to all safety procedures while operating heavy machinery in hazardous winter conditions, ensuring the safety of yourself and others. Perform pre-shift safety checks, including equipment condition, fuel levels, and communication devices. Follow traffic laws and safety guidelines while operating machinery around other vehicles, pedestrians, and workers in the area. Be proactive in ensuring a safe working environment, reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions.

Snow Pile Management:



Manage and organize snow piles by loading and hauling snow to designated storage areas. Ensure that snow piles are properly managed to avoid blocking pathways, drainage systems, or other important areas. Use the loader to compact snow piles to create more space for additional snow and to prevent overflow or flooding.

Weather Monitoring and Readiness:



Stay informed about weather forecasts and snow events to ensure readiness and timely response during snowstorms. Be available and on-call during snowstorms, including overnight and on weekends, to respond as needed. Adjust snow removal strategies based on changing weather conditions and road/ground conditions.

Team Collaboration:



Work closely with other snow removal personnel, including truck drivers, shovelers plow operators, and supervisors, to ensure coordinated snow removal efforts. Communicate effectively with the team to report progress, issues, or changes in snow conditions. Assist in the coordination of snow removal efforts in complex or crowded areas (e.g., urban streets, parking lots).

Post-Snowstorm Operations:



Assist with post-storm clean-up by moving remaining snow and ice to designated locations and ensuring all areas are clear. Apply sand, salt, or other de-icing materials to prevent further snow or ice buildup. Ensure that all cleared areas are fully accessible and safe for public use after snow removal operations are completed.

Qualifications:



Previous experience operating heavy machinery, specifically loaders, is required. Experience in snow removal operations is preferred, but training may be provided for qualified candidates.

Licensing & Certifications:



A valid driver's license is required Additional certifications related to equipment operation are a plus. DOT Medical Card OSHA Certs are a plus

Physical Requirements:



Ability to work in cold, harsh weather conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, push, or pull equipment and materials as necessary. Must have good physical stamina and dexterity to operate machinery safely.

Skills:



Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation and safety protocols. Ability to work independently and efficiently while managing equipment and snow removal tasks. Excellent communication skills for working with other team members and supervisors. Strong problem-solving ability, particularly when dealing with changing weather conditions and snow accumulation.

Availability:



Must be available to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially during snowstorms and adverse weather conditions.
