The Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Technician I to join the lab of Dr. Joyce Liao, Professor of Ophthalmology, to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and conduct and analyze experiments under supervision. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform basic and skilled techniques in support of lab\xe2\x80\x99s research goals.
  • Primary Cell Tissue Culture
  • Immuno-histology
  • Animal maintenance
  • Animal dissection
  • Animal eye surgical procedures
  • Microscopy
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental protocols and perform mathematical analysis of data.
Under supervision from the PI, the incumbent will perform techniques that require delicate manipulation and/or fine adjustments. S/he may be expected to complete general mathematical analysis. After training is complete and adequate independent abilities have been cultivated, work will be performed routinely without direct supervision, however all work is reviewed and discussed with supervisor.

The expected pay range for this position is $28.70 to $34.60 / hour.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Placement in the pay range is also subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

One year\xe2\x80\x99s employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
  • Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
  • Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds
  • Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds
  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.
