Come join a great team at State Hospital West (SHW)! We are looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to fill a temporary (benefits eligible) position. Our temp position provides an allotted amount of 1,385 hours to work in a 12-month period for any one state agency. We are needing a LPN to work weekends (either every weekend or every other weekend) with some intermittent weekday, vacation/or sick coverage. We offer 8 hour shifts and 12 hour shifts. Our day shift is 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and swing shift is 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. however, we can be flexible on length of shift that you would like to work as well as start time.

SHW is a smaller Adolescent Psychiatric Treatment Hospital with one unit of 16 beds. The SHW nursing staff work as a team and are very supportive of each other. General Information:
  • This position will be working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing to implement, maintain, and manage patient care and safety.
  • Employees may be required to work weekends, holidays, day, evening and night shifts (swing or night shifts may include 5% shift pay).
  • This position also requires applicants to become certified in CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
SHW is located in Nampa nestled between Ridgecrest and Centennial golf courses on a picturesque piece of state property along the Nampa Interstate 84 corridor. SHW provides psychiatric inpatient treatment care for Idaho\'s adolescent citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital will work in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living and will be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency.

Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Example of Duties
  • Performs practical nursing care or assists a registered nurse or physician in routine to complex situations in clinics or on the floor.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient\'s treatment, care, symptoms, physical and mental condition, behavior and progress.
  • Administers prescribed medications including intramuscular injections and observes for adverse reactions.
  • Performs treatments including change of sterile dressings, catheterizations and removal of sutures, insertion of nasal gastric tubes under the direction of the charge nurse and physician\'s orders.
  • Interviews patients to obtain health information and instructs and counsels patients regarding basic health needs.
  • Teaches patients and their families the importance of proper diet, medications, side effects, labs, infection prevention, and personal hygiene procedures.
  • Charts administered medications, symptoms, accidents, unusual behavior, doctors\' visits and observed side effects of drugs.
  • Orders lab and x-ray work under physicians\' orders.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the state of Idaho or state licensure as a Practical Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418, in one of the following compact states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin or Wyoming.
