Job Summary

The Tutor Liaison will serve as a steward of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe to the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, and to individual school leadership, to build capacity in the areas of cultural responsiveness. Tutor Liaisons will support culture instructors in navigating individual school assignments. Tutor Liaisons will work within their assigned age of expertise to help students to bridge the transition from Pre-k to kinder, elementary to middle school, or middle school to high school, and high school to post-secondary. Tutor Liaisons will spend approximately one third of their time at each school site, and one third of their time supporting Tribal programs and engaging in Kenaitze Education Professional Development. The Tutor Liaison collaborates with community agencies, organizations, and Kenai Peninsula School District interdisciplinary teams to maximize educational opportunities for Alaska Native and American Indian students and families.

Essential Functions

  • Connect parents to school resources and facilitate communication between parents, culture instructors, teachers, community resources and other Kenaitze Indian Tribe staff as needed
  • Collect and report learner data as it relates to Kenaitze program goals to school teams and parents
  • Promote and supervise community cultural projects and gatherings
  • Evaluate student records and assist with developing and implementing services that address social, academic, and cultural needs
  • Monitor grades and communicates regularly with teachers, counselors and parents/guardians, and assists in maintaining cultural needs
  • Consults and collaborates with community agencies, organizations, and KPBSD interdisciplinary teams to maximize educational opportunities for students and families
  • Assists families and students in transition from rural to urban Alaska
  • Maintains effective written and oral communication with students, parents/guardians, teachers, school administration, and members of the community

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Education or related field, or a combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree
Experience
  • One year (1) of experience working with youth
Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
License/Certification
  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver\'s license and must remain insurable under the Tribe\'s policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire, or, with approval of the hiring manager, sign a *Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in lieu of having a driver\'s license to perform the required duties of the position (If Applicable)
Must be a Public Notary or obtain within 90 days of hire

Special Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
