Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session.
Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-4:30pm
Appointment Type: Temporary
Appointment Duration: This position is a temporary position with an anticipated start of December 1, 2025 and will continue until the end of the 2026 legislative session, which is expected to end May 2026.

Position Summary
The Legislative Assistant will assist in daily operations by providing individualized technical and administrative support to an assigned Senator with scheduling, written and oral communication (to constituents, legislators, staff, media, governmental agencies, and lobbyists), constituent casework, legislative tracking, and general support. May also rotate or provide more general support to the caucus at times.
We seek someone who is highly motivated, interested in the legislative priorities of the GOP caucus, and passionate about government while being committed to providing the best possible service, representation, and leadership to a Senator's constituents. An ideal candidate will be organized and capable of managing multiple work streams. This is a fast-paced work environment that requires adaptability and flexibility.
Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, Social Science, Public Policy, or related area of study.
OR
One (1) year of experience in state government, policy advocacy, written communication, legislative session in any capacity, office assistance, or related.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:

  • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills to sufficiently manage a Senator's district with a high volume of constituent casework and full committee schedules.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Calendar, Zoom, and other virtual meeting programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
  • Proficiency with the constituent response management software Indigov.
Competencies
  • Ability to actively listen, project a calm demeanor, and discern needs when speaking with constituents.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous work situations when limited information is available.
