DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Town of Clayton is seeking volunteers for our 2023 Summer Camp. The volunteers will be part of our Leaders-in-Training program led by our Parks and Recreational Services/Administration Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 250 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts. The Leaders-in-Training are in the Parks and Recreational Services/Administration Department and reports to the Recreation Program Coordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Clayton Youth Leaders-in-Training Program is a volunteer program offered by the Town of Clayton and is administered by the Recreation Programs Coordinator in the Recreation division. The program offers meaningful work and leadership experiences for teens, while also supplying the Town of Clayton with additional summer employees to provide services for the citizens of Clayton. The purpose for this volunteer position is to increase participants\' skills and broaden their knowledge of career opportunities, especially in local government.

  • Provides public service through part-time volunteer opportunities.
  • Emphasizes both education and job experience as prerequisites for a successful future.
Summer camp runs Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm in June, July, and August. This volunteer position works 20 hours per week during the nine (9) weeks of camp and be available for pre-camp planning during May.

Special Requirements, Education & Experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES: Volunteer applicants possess the ability to be a good role model, leadership, communication skills, and low maintenance; possess the ability to observe and work with large groups of children; Individual should possess the ability to work effectively with other staff personnel, community organizations, the general public and special population groups. Individuals should possess the skill in organizing a variety of activities including attention to details, deadlines, and proper coordination with others.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience working with children ages 6 - 12 preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Our Youth Leaders-in-Training Program preferred volunteers between the ages of 14 and 15.
