Job Summary

Responsible for assisting management in overseeing departmental operations including mentoring other employees, ensures accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of the required tasks, and continuity of established processes.

Lead OR Coordinator, OR Control Desk, Nights

*Full time; 6pm-5:30am, Weeknights varied with rotating Weekend Nights

*5+years of hospital scheduling or business office experience required

*1+ year of Supervisory experience or 7-10 years of healthcare experience required

  • This role is crucial in ensuring that surgeries are scheduled effectively and timely along with providing support to the weeknights and weekend nights OR scheduling staff. Some of the other responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing and auditing the OR next day schedule for accuracy along with ensuring that procedures are properly allocated based on resources.
  • Team Coordination: Communicating with evening staff to ensure everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Problem Solving: Addressing scheduling conflicts, emergencies and unexpected changes.
  • Quality Control: Monitor the quality of surgical cases being scheduled as add-on and emergencies.
  • Data Analysis: Has a good working knowledge of excel to provide scheduling data identify trends to improve overall efficiency of add-on and emergency cases.
  • Staff Development: Contribute to training, mentoring, and evaluating staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
This position is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: associate degree in business or related field; in lieu of degree two (2) years of extensive working knowledge of OR scheduling, navigation and operations of an operating room.

Licenses/Certifications: Not Applicable

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Four (4) years of experience in a hospital or clinical setting
  • Two (2) years of experience in a call center environment
  • Previous experience leading a team, unit or project.
  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proficient typing/keyboarding skills
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong customer service management skills: ability to function well with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to assimilate information verbally and in writing in order to compose written correspondence.
  • Strong command of the English language and the ability to be clearly understood through verbal communication in face-to-face encounters and by telephone.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in typing/keyboard skills advance computer skills, ability to function independently in various computer programs, including Excel
