Job Summary

Position is responsible for providing radiological physics expertise in radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging, and health physics.

Memorial Hermann\'s TMC Gamma Knife Radiosurgery department was established in 1993 and has treated close to 7,000 patients to date and currently treats 500 patients per year. We are currently seeking our new Lead Medical Physicist and RSO for Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD in Physics or Medical Physics

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be Board Certified by the American College of Radiology or the American College of Medical Physics and obtain Texas license
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • 10+ years of clinical Medical Physics experience, Gamma Knife experience preferred
  • 3+ years of ]RSO experience, Category I materials preferred
  • Authorized Medical Physicist in Gamma Knife, HDR or manual brachytherapy
  • Member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine

Principal Accountabilities
  • Performs clinical medical physics duties in patient care
  • Coordinates with neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists to determine imaging and planning goals for Gamma Knife patients
  • Coordinates quality control activities for ICON maintenance and calibration, including service and required regulatory quality assurance to assure high levels of accuracy and safety in patient care delivery.
  • Serves as RSO to the Gamma Knife, a Category I radioactive materials license and registration.
  • Coordinates inspections with the head of Security and a representative of Human Resources in order to fulfill safety requirements imposed by the state and the NRC.
  • Serves as RSO to Radiation Therapy Services license and registration.
  • Is present during a source change to the Gamma Knife to ensure full compliance with required supervision of new source arrival, installation, and removal (of old sources).
  • Maintains all records requires by the State of Texas, Bureau of Radiation control.
  • Prepares and reviews weekly schedule of Gamma Knife patients with Neurosurgeons, Radiations Oncologists, Physics staff and Nursing staff.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development for physics staff by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to Physics and other Gamma Knife staff
  • Supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
