Salary position: $60,000 -$70,000 depending on experience

Job Summary



Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, providing assistance to the veterinarian during examinations, surgeries, and other procedures including routine wellness exams, preparations of medications, and general care of all animals that visit the clinic (both cats and dogs). This role is a leadership position with additional training, oversight, and management responsibilities.

What You'll Be Working On



The Lead Veterinary Technician position will support several key components of the clinic such as:

Leadership/Management:

Train new technician and assistant employees, as well as coach and guide these employees to perform clinical tasks to maintain standards of care and encourage growth Work with the Clinic manager to ensure proper inventory is available and maintained at all times Assist in development and maintenance of medical and cleaning protocols alongside the veterinarians Assist in development and maintain clinic organization and surgical/recovery flow alongside the veterinarians Maintain accurate controlled substance logs Able to think quickly on your feet and problem solve in a fast-paced work environment
Patient and Client Support:

Create a warm and welcoming environment for all clients Communicate with clients in a respectful, nonjudgmental way maintaining professionalism at all times. Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of veterinary medical concepts Provide exceptional and compassionate care for all patients, and perform all duties of a licensed veterinary technician according to established ASV (Association of Shelter Veterinarians) standards Oversee clinic surgery flow and follow established protocols Provide support for the veterinarian throughout the work day, including client communication/answering questions Provide anesthesia and surgical nursing support and post-operative care for patients including, but not limited to, venipuncture, catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, and pharmacology Proficient in animal handling and restraint techniques Provide excellent client/patient care during the check in/check out process each day Make sure patient records are correct and properly filled out Help educate clients in a clear and effective manner
Clinic Upkeep:

Ensure proper operation and maintenance of anesthetic and surgical equipment Oversee completion of daily checklists and weekly maintenance logs before the end of each work day Help clean and disinfect kennels, equipment, and facility while utilizing appropriate PPE Follow all PPE and cleaning protocols, OSHA protocols, written, and verbally communicated SOPs Assist in keeping supplies stocked and note when supplies are running low in all departments Ensure the entire hospital is kept clean throughout the day to prevent clutter and spread of disease Other duties as assigned

Requirements/Qualifications



Current Veterinary Technician License in ND or willingness to obtain this license. 5+ years experience as a veterinary technician Knowledge and experience with entire surgical process including drug calculations and anesthesia Excellent technical and handling skills, as well as the ability to follow low stress handling and restraint techniques Strong communicator and leadership skills - ability to provide feedback and recommendations regarding clinic flow, management and patient care protocols Flexible and willing to learn as the clinic changes and grows throughout the first few months of opening Organized and efficient with a strong work ethic and attention to detail Proficient with computers, able to learn required software programs Team player who is excited to work with a small group of passionate individuals Able to work independently and take initiative Strong commitment to ethics and integrity

Physical Requirements



Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly
