to serve as a technical expert and process leader within our laboratory. This role performs complex testing while supporting quality, instrumentation, workflow optimization, and staff training--without direct supervisory responsibility.
The Lead MLT/MLS works closely with the Director of Laboratory Services and serves as a key resource for chemistry instrumentation, quality control, and laboratory systems, helping ensure accurate, timely, and compliant diagnostic services for our patients.

What You'll Do
Perform complex laboratory testing across all patient age groups with a high level of independent judgment
Serve as the primary technical resource for the chemistry analyzer, including troubleshooting, calibration, maintenance oversight, and coordination of service requests
Review and interpret quality control (QC) data, identify trends or deviations, and implement corrective actions to maintain regulatory compliance
Support quality management initiatives, performance improvement projects, and workflow optimization
Perform preventive maintenance, instrument calibration, and basic troubleshooting on laboratory equipment
Assist with new instrument or procedure implementation, staff training, and onboarding of new employees or student interns
Review daily billing reports, reconcile discrepancies, and complete manual pathology charge entry as needed
Maintain laboratory forms, worksheets, and documentation in alignment with current procedures and regulations
Submit and collaborate on Laboratory Information System (LIS) support tickets and issue resolution
Order and manage laboratory supplies through PathLab and Purchasing to ensure uninterrupted operations
Communicate effectively with providers and departments to support continuity of care
Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism while representing the laboratory and SCMC

What We're Looking For
Education & Certification
MLT: Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science
MLS: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related chemical, physical, or biological science
ASCP or AMT certification required (or obtained within 6 months of hire)
Mandatory Reporter Certificate (within 90 days of hire)
Valid Iowa Driver's License
Experience
3+ years of clinical laboratory experience required
Experience with chemistry analyzers, QC review, and troubleshooting strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical-thinking skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
High attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Adaptability in a fast-paced healthcare environment
