Position Summary

We're seeking a visionary Email Development Lead to join our team at Bold Orange. In this strategic role, you'll define technical vision and architecture standards across multiple projects, lead the design of cross-project technical platforms, and provide technical oversight for complex client engagements. You'll evaluate new frameworks, ESPs, Marketing Automation platforms, tools, and approaches for organizational adoption while establishing best practices that ensure technical excellence. You'll be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end delivery of email campaigns, including the development of email templates, journeys, and the implementation of email campaigns.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional technical leader with deep expertise across email development and delivery and a proven track record of designing enterprise-scale email implementations and email campaigns. You'll guide multiple project teams, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and drive innovation that creates meaningful business impact.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Directly manage a team of Email Developers, both full-time and contractors Define technical vision and architecture standards across multiple projects and email platforms Evaluate new frameworks, ESPs, Marketing Automation platforms, tools, and approaches for organizational adoption Provide technical oversight across multiple complex client projects Develop technical roadmaps for practice areas or departments Establish security best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes Champion and orchestrate adoption of modern development approaches (ESPs, Marketing Automation platforms, tools, Agentic AI Coding tools, etc.) Lead technical discovery efforts and provide expert consultation to clients Guide multiple project teams on technical implementation Configure and use enterprise-scale email platforms Establish patterns for email implementation and multi-platform solutions, journeys, and campaigns Create technical standards that scale across multiple projects and email platforms Evaluate and recommend architectural approaches for complex business needs Lead adoption of innovative email development and delivery approaches Lead on-call programs and serve as final escalation point for major incidents Establish reliability standards and frameworks across multiple clients and email platforms

Required Qualifications & Experience

8-12 years of progressive front-end development experience with a focus on email development Experience managing a team of Email Developers, both full-time and contractors Experience creating and implementing cutting-edge email campaigns and journeys Experience with interactive and dynamic email campaigns (AMPScript, LiquidScript, AMP for Email, etc.) Proven ability to evaluate and implement emerging email technologies with business impact Experience creating enterprise-scale approaches for email platforms Experience with end-to-end email development and delivery Established track record of designing patterns that scale across multiple teams and projects Ability to define email development and delivery technology strategy aligned with business goals Knowledge of designing ESP integrations, Marketing Automation journeys across multiple platforms Experience establishing standards for security, compliance, accessibility, performance, and reliability Strong leadership skills with experience guiding technical teams Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience

Experience with Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Iterable, Movable Ink, CheetahMail, and their ecosystems Experience with automation tooling and platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices Experience with Agentic AI Coding tools and platforms Experience managing remote, hybrid, and international team members

We benchmark salaries across industry standards and local markets to ensure we offer competitive, fair compensation. Final offers reflect a candidate's skills, experience, and location.
The salary starts at 125,000 per year in the Greater Twin Cities market.
