Job Overview




The PCEP Lead Child Development Teacher (CDT) provides high-quality care and education to infants and toddlers in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. This position requires specialized knowledge to support the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth of young children. In addition to classroom responsibilities, the Lead CDT supports the PCEP Center Director in managing the Early Childhood Education (ECE) component of the Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP), one of the program's five core components. The PCEP Lead CDT assists with child development center operations, enrollment, licensing compliance, and adherence to TRS and NAEYC standards, while also providing ongoing guidance to PCEP Child Development Teachers to ensure consistency and quality across the PCEP Children's classrooms.

Job Responsibilities



Promote and model AVANCE's Core Values at all times. Always ensures the safety and well-being of children while under AVANCE's care. Support the PCEP Center Director in the daily operation of the Child Development Center, including compliance with licensing, TRS, and NAEYC regulations and standards. Assist the Center Director in completing weekly and monthly reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission of required documentation. Assist with child enrollment and other administrative tasks related to the Parent-Child Education Program. Develop and implement weekly lesson plans aligned with PCEP curriculum and assessment tools, and provide guidance to teachers in lesson planning and classroom implementation. Maintain a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, independence, and positive social interaction. Use positive guidance techniques, avoiding corporal punishment, isolation, or denial of basic needs. Conduct developmental assessments and screenings in key domains (motor, language, cognitive, social, emotional). Maintain child portfolios, attendance records, and progress documentation. Promote secure relationships by demonstrating warmth, empathy, and consistency with each child. Provide children with age-appropriate experiences that foster curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity. Encourage strong parent-child relationships and actively engage families in their child's learning. Conduct and document home visits (minimum six per program year) to strengthen parent-child interaction using AVANCE's educational toys and curriculum activities. Maintain family folders, documentation, case notes, and follow-up on family support needs. Administer medications according to policy and maintain proper documentation. Ensure high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and sanitation in all classroom spaces. Report suspected cases of child abuse, neglect, or illness immediately in accordance with policy. Prepare and distribute daily disinfecting solutions and report unsafe or malfunctioning equipment promptly. Maintain an average daily attendance of at least 85% and follow up on absences. Implement family support procedures (home visits, direct contact) for children and parents with four or more consecutive unexcused absences. Participate in community outreach and recruitment events for PCEP. Participate in pre-service and ongoing training, including AVANCE's annual PCEP Training and start-of-year programming. Attend required meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions. Support continuous program improvement through collaboration with the Center Director and team members. Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding children, families, and staff. Ensure all performance, program, and licensing standards are followed consistently. Serve as the designated person in charge of the ECE component and ensure licensing compliance in the absence of the PCEP Center Director. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education




Required:

Infant and Toddler CDA (Child Development Associate Credential)

Preferred:

Associate in Early Childhood Education or Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education or related field with 18 hours in Early Childhood Education and knowledgeable of Texas Licensing Standards.

Work Experience




Required:

Six (6) months in a licensed childcare facility or in a public/private school or early childhood facility or has completed an early childhood degree program where practicum(s) were required.

Additional Skills Required



Must be computer literate and have proficient working knowledge in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Must have Interpersonal and teambuilding skills. Spanish fluency helpful but not required. Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships. Strong verbal and written communication, problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to travel to various training sessions. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Must have dependable transportation daily, valid driver's license, a clean driving record, current auto liability insurance and be bondable by AVANCE, San Antonio, Inc.

General office and sedentary. Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk


or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Use of personal computing equipment.


Maintain emotional control under stress; work with interruptions and deadlines; walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; occasional: lifting/carrying, pulling/pushing 10-30 pounds. Work evenings and weekends as needed.

Environmental Factors




Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Occasional exposure to weather related conditions when working in outside environment/neighborhoods and events.
