Job Description

The purpose of this job is to transport passengers in a variety of buses and vans and provide customer service. Provides leadership and training to bus drivers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Leads and coordinates the work of a group of employees; assigns and prioritizes tasks; guides employees to instruct or advise on tasks or assignments.


Conducts accident investigations.


Provides customer service to patrons and employees.


Monitors and ensures equipment functions properly; communicates with maintenance shop as needed; performs safety checks.


Ensures drivers follow routes, time points, and speed limits.


Maintains records and logs as required.


Serves on call and standby as needed.


Collects, counts, and deposits money collected from fare boxes, as needed.


Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities


No supervisory authority. Work does require providing guidance and training to others.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered


Education and Experience:



High school diploma or equivalent.


3 years of experience driving a commercial vehicle.

Licenses or Certifications:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and no airbrake restriction.

Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position


Knowledge of:

Assigned routes.


Relevant laws and regulations pertaining to motor vehicles, Federal Transportation Administration (FTA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), public works, and transit policies and procedures.


Defensive driving and accident prevention.

Skill in:

Operating fleet vehicles and equipment.


Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.


Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.

Ability to:

Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Conduct accident investigations. To prepare and write reports. Provide guidance and training to others. Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Provide high levels of effective customer service. Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
