Position Description


PURPOSE: Under general supervision operates laundry equipment at all Summit County Jail in order to clean, store and distribute laundry in order to provide a sanitary environment for inmates confined at the Correction Division.



QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or GED. Basic knowledge of PC and experience with commercial machinery. Any combination of training or work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed in duties.



DUTIES: Plans, directs and coordinates laundry for the Correction Division, collects dirty laundry daily. Drops dirty laundry at commercial washing machine and dryer. Monitors female inmate workers in washing , drying and folding laundry. Assigns work to female inmate workers and monitors work.

Distributes clean uniform and linen. Replenishes bed squares, shoes, towels and face clothes as necessary. Ensures that property bags are dissected and washed. Maintains inventory of uniforms, linens, towels, (etc.) and advises when supplies need ordered. Prepares and maintains accurate records if all operations of laundry but not limited to inmate time reports, quantities of clothing laundered, time laundry returned to housing location. Proves training for female inmates assigned to laundry detail. Oversees preventive maintenance of laundry machinery. Maintains safety and sanitation within laundry. Navigates jail management system. Maintains a daily laundry log. Performs other related job duties as required.




ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Operate commercial/industrial washer and dryer, including interpreting gauges. Ability to lift and move 20 lbs. on a frequent bases. Ability to stand/walk on feet for the majority if work day. Work in areas of high and low temperatures. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in noisy environment. Operate computer and keyboard. Ability to supervise inmates

7:00 AM -3:00 PM- SUNDAY - THURSDAY



DAYS OFF: FRIDAY & SATURDAY

PRE-EMPLOYMENT TESTING REQUIREMENTS: ALL SUMMIT COUNTY SHERIFF EMPLOYEES ARE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING, AND CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS.
