Job Description

Environmental Service Laundry Tech

Reports To:

Environmental Service Manager


POSITION SUMMARY

: Able to perform all duties within the laundry department, is able to operate machinery used in the process of laundering linens (washers, dryers) Able to operate hot press machine, sewing machine to mark new linens and mend torn linens.


B. LAUNDRY




Collects soiled linen and distributes clean linen following hospital policy and procedures.

Able to complete all necessary and pertinent record keeping.

Follows manufactures guidelines related to chemical dispensing system and wash cycles.

Assures that all safety measures are followed.

Provides an adequate supply of linens that are free from infectious contaminates.

Mends torn articles.

Sorts and counts articles to verify quantities on laundry list.

Maintains adequate supply of linens to meet par levels.

Follows established policy and procedures for laundry operations.

Able to operate laundry equipment, washers, dryers, hot press.

Able to use computer to record monthly stats.

C. EDUCATION


Participates in continuing education including annual orientations, attending monthly staff meetings, and articles pertaining to Environmental/laundry services, and all other education offered.

Completes mandatory education and appropriate department specific competency checklists within established time frame.

Is receptive to being taught, coached or mentored.



D. SAFETY




Attends all required safety training and can describe his or her responsibility related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.

Helps to establish and enforce safety guidelines.

Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.

Maintains work area and equipment in the condition required by department standards.

Demonstrates proper body mechanic in all functions.

E. INFECTION CONTROL/ UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS:




Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Attends infections control education programs.

Follows safety policies when using chemicals.

Reports any safety hazard to the appropriate supervisor.

Properly disposes of contaminated and hazardous waste material. Collects and disposes of contaminated articles (used sharp containers, contaminated trash).


F. TEAMWORK:


Supports the hospital's mission, policies, and procedures.

Accesses and responds to e-mail and voice messages in a timely manner.

Follows chain of command for unresolved issues.

Displays initiative by assisting others.

Does not engage in bickering, backstabbing and blaming.

Participates in monthly staff meetings.

Consistently demonstrates an understanding of and willingness to be flexible in scheduling to meet department and hospital needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS OF SERVICE:




Physical Activity: Long periods of standing, walking, working inside building and outside taking out trash and biohazard waste, personnel must adhere to caution during inclement weather and wear appropriate shoes (snow cleats) when necessary.


Environmental Service/Laundry will work Monday thru Sunday either day or night shift as scheduled and some weekends as needed or requested.


EDUCATION:

Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

: Some experience preferred but not required.

Hours of Service:

Monday through Sunday 24/7 Schedules may vary according to hospital needs.
