Hiring Range: $54,101.00 - $64,921.20
Work Day/Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

This position is devoted to providing support functions for law enforcement activities by ensuring timely and accurate results of work produced by the latent print unit.

Additional duties include organizing latent unit work flow functions, gathering and organizing unit statistics, unit policy creation, mentoring unit employees, preparing training, attending meetings, acting as unit liaison, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures, performing verifications and case reviews, and acting as the Technical Leader by overseeing accreditation requirements as related to the latent print unit. Although this position is administrative in nature, the supervisor will also be a subject matter expert any may occasionally performing or assisting with casework which may include the examination of complex latent print evidence.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff including planning, assigning, and evaluating work; performs quality assurance duties; trains staff; develops operating policies and procedures; recommends and implements process improvements; and ensures service coverage and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates the preparation of and/or prepares, maintains, and/or reviews reports, records, and other documents; reviews work and the work of others for accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares and manages unit statistics, organizes unit processes and projects, manages a team of dynamic examiners and technicians.
  • Oversees and maintains accreditation requirements within the latent unit.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement and/or external agencies to provide professional assistance; and responds to inquiries in accordance with law enforcement protocols, rules and regulations.
  • Developing policies and standards
  • Ensuring coverage of services.
  • Coordinating emergency response.
  • Screening and prioritizing cases.
  • Assisting the forensic manager with other related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree in criminal justice, social sciences or directly related field.
  • One year of experience related to assignment.
  • Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver\'s license "or" if you currently have another states driver\'s license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver\'s license within 60 days of hire.
Additional Preferred Skills
  • Master\'s Degree or continued course work in a related field,
  • Latent Print Certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI CLPE)
  • Published research in a forensics discipline or demonstration of research in progress.
  • Leadership and/or supervisory training courses
