The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint literacy, and the ability to diagnose and resolve press and tooling issues to meet production, safety, and quality targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Press Operation:
Operate large hydraulic presses for forming and blanking operations while maintaining cycle times and quality targets.
Die Setup and Changeover:
Perform complete die changeovers including removal, installation, alignment, shimming, bolting, and trial runs; document setup and tooling offsets for reproducibility.
Tooling Maintenance:
Inspect dies, punches, guides, and pilots for wear or damage; perform basic repairs, sharpening, and preventive maintenance; coordinate complex repairs with tooling or maintenance teams.
Quality Assurance:
Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM data to inspect parts and validate dimensions against blueprints; make real-time press adjustments to maintain tolerances.
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose press and tooling faults (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or die-related) and implement corrective actions to reduce scrap and downtime.
Process Optimization:
Recommend and implement press parameter changes, die modifications, feed adjustments, or material handling improvements to increase yield and throughput.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate setup sheets, tooling logs, production counts, scrap reports, shift handover notes, and corrective action records.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce lockout/tagout, press guarding, PPE, and other safety protocols; participate in safety audits and incident investigations.
Collaboration:
Work closely with Maintenance, Toolroom, Quality, and Engineering to support tooling design changes, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
