PURPOSE
The Laborer will work directly with the Natives Lands and Resources Forester and Public Safety\xe2\x80\x99s Wildland Fire Program Manager to complete assigned seasonal project work. The Laborer will be expected to be an active team member to successfully perform the job duties. The Laborer will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of situational awareness and safety while performing job duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Tree thinning with a chainsaw.
• Always carries an Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG) to guide actions.
• Maintains specialized tools/equipment that may include, hand tools and chainsaws.
• Maintains safe working procedures & environment.
• Responsible for returning all assigned gear after project work is completed to Tlingit & Haida.
• Conforms to safety policies and general housekeeping practices.
• Demonstrates sound work ethic, flexibility, and shows dedication to the position.
• Expected to start shift on time, meet attendance standards, and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to safely operate a chainsaw and hand tools.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds in repetition.
• Must be able to work outside in adverse weather conditions for an extended period of time.
• Ability to navigate in the forest and map reading skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

• High School diploma or GED
• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver\'s license (or able to obtain one)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

• Experience working with a chainsaw.
• Forestry experience

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
In addition, the physical demands of the position require that the incumbent be in good physical condition. Fieldwork involves rigorous outdoor activities under adverse weather conditions. The duties of this position involve field work in remote and/or rugged terrain where climate conditions are variable and extreme. This position requires travel, extended hours, and widely varied work environments, including remote physical areas, dangerous animals, and some degree of physical danger.
