Under the general supervision of the Director of Laboratory Services, the
Laboratory Manager
assists the Director in overseeing the operations of our clinical laboratory within a specialized hematology/oncology medical practice, which includes three locations. This individual will be responsible for managing daily lab functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing workflows, maintaining high standards of quality and safety, and leading a team of skilled laboratory personnel. The Lab Manager will ensure compliance with laboratory policies and procedures and federal/state regulations, including FDA, CAP, COLA, OSHA and CLIA. The Laboratory Manager also serves as a liaison between staff, patients, and management. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in clinical laboratory science, team leadership, and a deep understanding of oncology diagnostics and laboratory best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Lab Operations & Management
+ Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, including operations at satellite laboratory locations
+ Oversee specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting.
+ Ensure timely and accurate delivery of lab results to physicians and patients.
+ Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed to maintain uninterrupted operations.
+ Plans, coordinates and directs the activities of laboratory staff.
+ Identifies training needs of staff and assures testing staff receive regular in-service training as part of continuing education requirements.
+ Evaluates the competency of all testing staff on a regular basis. Evaluates and documents performance of all individuals responsible for testing.
+ Verifies test procedures performed and establishes the laboratory's test performance.
+ Resolves technical problems. Ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
+ Ensures all instrument maintenance, as required and/or as needed, is performed in order to assure maximum efficiency and accuracy in instrument performance.
+ Serves as a liaison between patients, their families, other healthcare staff, and management, regarding patient issues and/or complaints.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
+ Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FDA, CAP, COLA, OSHA and CLIA.).
+ Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control programs, and safety protocols.
+ Coordinate and lead laboratory inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.
Team Leadership
+ Supervise, train, and evaluate laboratory staff (technicians, phlebotomists, etc.).
+ Schedule work shifts and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
+ Promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and professional development.
Clinical Support & Collaboration
+ Collaborate with oncologists and clinical teams to support diagnostic and treatment workflows.
+ Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and provide insights on lab capabilities and test interpretations.
+ Stay current with emerging technologies and advances in oncology-related laboratory testing.
Administrative Duties
+ Maintain accurate records for lab tests, equipment maintenance, and personnel files.
+ Manage departmental budgets, cost controls, and vendor relationships.
+ Implement and track performance metrics for lab efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field (Master's preferred).
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) required.
Minimum 5 years of clinical laboratory experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Experience in oncology or hematology laboratory testing strongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of laboratory regulations and accreditation standards.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficient in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
Working Conditions:
