Job Description


Reports to Laboratory Manager or Program Manager. We are seeking a Laboratory Coordinator who will be responsible for the transport, processing and shipment of specimens. The Laboratory Coordinator will be expected to perform accessioning, processing, and shipping duties in a service laboratory with minimal supervision according to approved Study Compliance Instructions (SCI). The Laboratory Coordinator will be required to assist in the multiple areas within SAC as needed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follows Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Collects, processes, documents, stores and ships patient specimens according to Study Protocol.
  • Helps organize and maintain the freezer inventory.
  • Is responsible for the shipment of day of collection and batched specimens.
  • Performs internal transfers of specimens to labs within the Cancer Center.
  • Troubleshoots samples that come to lab with missing information.
  • Maintains samples processed in the appropriate database and barcodes all specimens processed.
  • Assist in providing notification to study teams when a specific study\'s processing or shipping supply inventories are low and in need of reorder.
  • Assisting in query investigation and resolution.
  • Assists in training new laboratory personnel for sample processing and shipment.
  • Assists with equipment calibration documentation maintenance and ensures that all centrifuges, freezers and pipettes are calibrated on schedule.
  • Prepares study sample collection kits, drop off kits at clinic assigned location, maintains kit\'s inventory and requests kits resupply when needed.
  • Has the ability to accommodate a fast-paced laboratory schedule.
  • Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
  • Must work on a rotating shift as assigned by Management.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager and/or Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent and some college course work in the Biological Sciences, with Bachelor\'s Degree preferred.
  • One year of related laboratory experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
