Lab Aide Duties:
Accurately and efficiently accessions anatomical lab test specimens
Verifies all specimens that come in are labeled appropriately and that they match the labels on the requisition to ensure that there are no issues with patient identity and reporting
Prepares specimens received for testing in reference laboratory
Enters patient demographics into the electronic medical record
Reviews and Accessions specimens and testing orders for laboratory analysis
Assists technologists and technicians with the operation of standard laboratory instruments
Perform routine laboratory assistant duties according to agency standards and protocols
Perform specimen or reception check, and records information into LIS
Cleans work area, and surrounding laboratory after completion of work day
Receives phone orders for lab tests from physicians, nurses, endo centers
Follows all laboratory safety rules and reports any possible hazards to the Lab Manager
Files and/or retrieves lab copies of patient test reports in cabinet files and/or in computer
Keeps the Lab Supervisor informed about malfunctioning of any office equipment
Verifies inventories and prepares orders for certain lab supplies as directed by the Lab Office Supervisor
Sorts and distributes incoming correspondence, email, tasks notification, phone calls.
Maintains biohazardous records and logs; arranges for pickup of hazardous materials monthly

Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Associate of Science preferred

One (1) year experience in laboratory setting preferred.

This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily.
Work Environment
This job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions. Local travel in the region may be required to another location as needed.
