JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in the operation of Organic Chemistry / General Chemistry stockroom and labs. Other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
---------------
40% - Essential - Assists in organizing and scheduling lab equipment for lab periods for different chemistry lab courses. Prepares and/or supervises preparation of reagents for approx. 1500 students per week in Fall and 1300 in Spring. Helps with ordering chemical supplies and equipment as needed. Maintains chemical inventory for respective teaching labs. Keeps all work areas clean and free of chemical spills.
30% - Essential - Assists in supervising the work of several work study students and collaborating with graduate teaching assistants each semester. Helps with orientation and enforcement of safety and dress codes in the labs. Assists in managing the Organic/General Chemistry stockroom and labs on a daily basis. Responsible for ensuring that labs are left in conditions for teaching and locking up respective teaching labs each night after labs end.
15% - Essential - Supervises maintenance and operation of teaching lab equipment including NMR, FTIR and UV/Vis spectrometers, stirring hot plates, balances, UV lamps, and drying ovens. Reports needed maintenance requests to building manager.
10% - Essential - Collects hazardous waste in all labs and supervises disposal in accordance with state and federal regulations. Regularly flushes safety eyewashes and showers in teaching labs year-round.
5% - Essential - Develops and maintains material for personnel training
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - High School or Equivalent. Journey-level technical experience in a related laboratory setting.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a scientific discipline.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Anticipated Salary Range: $37,500 - $42,967.50
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
