Mill & Whistle is the newest addition to Wilmington's historic downtown. We're a year-round, fast-casual drive-thru cafe serving high-quality coffee and light breakfast bites. We also have a small retail space where we sell curated home and pantry goods. We're building a dependable, consistent, high-standards operation. That only works if our entire team is sharp, reliable, and takes pride in delivering the same great experience to every single customer, every single day.

We open at 6:00 AM daily. This role is a dedicated opener, arriving at 5:30 AM to get the kitchen online and moving. This may change as we expand hours, but need a commitment to early mornings to start.

Kitchen & Prep Team Members

who take pride in their craft, work clean and fast, and care deeply about consistency. You'll be responsible for food prep, assembly, and supporting our cafe team during busy hours. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has high standards, and takes pride in delivering consistent service to delight guests.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, cook, and assemble menu items following recipes and presentation standards. Maintain a clean, organized kitchen workspace. Run opening and closing kitchen procedures. Receive and stock inventory; rotate products and track ingredients. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and labeling guidelines. Communicate with cafe staff to ensure smooth order flow and quick service. Assist with seasonal menu testing and new product prep. Support retail and cafe operations as needed -- all team members are cross-trained to help each other.

About You

Experience in a kitchen, cafe, or food production environment preferred (but we'll train enthusiastic beginners). You work efficiently, stay calm under pressure, and love being part of a well-run operation. Reliable, detail-oriented, and a team player. Willing to work mornings, and some weekends, and holidays. Excited to help open a brand-new business and grow with it.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
