Job Description

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking Kitchen Helper with a minimum of one year of Southern cooking experience to join our team. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced kitchen, understands the fundamentals of Southern-style preparation and is passionate about delivering high-quality food.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with daily food preparation, including chopping, seasoning, and prepping ingredients for Southern-style dishes. Support cooks and chef with cooking tasks including frying, sauteing, and operating basic kitchen equipment. Follow Velvet's recipes, portion standards and food safety procedures. Always maintain a clean and organized workspace. Wash dishes, utensils, and cookware as needed. Receive, unpack, and store deliveries properly. Setting up and breaking down kitchen stations daily. Ensure proper labeling, rotation and storage of food items. o Perform other duties as assigned by kitchen management.

Qualifications:

Minimum of one year experience in a kitchen environment specializing in Southern or soul food cuisine. Basic knowledge of traditional Southern dishes (e.g., greens, mac & cheese, cornbread, fried items, gravies, etc..). Ability to follow directions and work independently in a team environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift-up to 30-40 lbs. Dependable, punctual, and motivated to learn.

Preferred Qualities:

Experience in a catering or high-volume kitchen. Positive attitude and willingness to grow within the team.

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 - 35.0 per week
