Overview

As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care for animals in a dynamic and nurturing environment. The primary responsibility is to provide daily care for boarding pets, including dogs and cats. Duties include feeding, watering, cleaning, walking, bathing, medicating, and monitoring the well-being of animals. The role also involves assisting with veterinary assistant tasks as needed, such as patient handling and basic clinic support. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, show a love for animals, and be willing to learn and cross-train in various clinic responsibilities.

What you'll do

Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising pets to maintain their physical health and happiness. Assist veterinary staff with medical procedures, including medication administration and animal restraint, ensuring the safety of both animals and team members. Maintain cleanliness and organization of kennel facilities, adhering to high standards of hygiene and aseptic techniques. Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns or changes to the veterinary team promptly. Engage with pet owners at the front desk, providing updates on their pets' well-being and addressing any inquiries they may have. Support laboratory tasks as needed, including sample collection and processing under the guidance of veterinary professionals. Assist with bathing, nail trimming, and brushing of patients. Bring surgery patients back for receptionists when required. Support veterinary assistant duties, including patient restraint and basic clinic tasks, as needed.

Basic qualifications

A genuine love for animals and the ability to warmly welcome clients and pets. Compassionate, well-mannered, and courteous demeanor. Ability to multitask and handle interruptions professionally. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods. Willingness to learn and cross-train in veterinary assistant roles. Prior experience in animal care is a plus but not required; training will be provided.
