League Specialist (Full-Time)
KC Crew | Kansas City, MO
Where fun and community come together.
If you love sports, can juggle a thousand moving parts without breaking a sweat, and get a little too excited about a perfectly built league schedule... you might be our next League Specialist.
KC Crew runs Kansas City's largest and fastest-growing adult recreational leagues, and we're looking for someone who can help us deliver the magic behind the scenes. You'll support our League Director in running leagues and events across the city -- from equipment and staff management to schedules, rainouts, and the occasional "What do you mean the ump didn't show up?" moment.
This role is part logistics, part leadership, part hospitality, and part on-call superhero cape.
What You'll Do
League Operations
Plan and prepare league details -- rosters, schedules, equipment, staff assignments, and all the little things no one sees but everyone feels.
Run nightly leagues and problem-solve on the fly.
Anticipate scenarios that could impact gameplay or safety.
Become a cross-sport expert:
-Basketball (ref/scorekeeper)
-Kickball & Softball (umpire)
-Flag Football (referee)
-Volleyball / Pickleball / Cornhole / Fowling (league monitor)
Create daily reports, track league progress, and support operational improvements.
Coordinate delivery and organization of equipment and supplies.
Resolve player and staff issues with professionalism and fairness.
Repair or troubleshoot equipment when needed.
Collaborate with the League Director on new league ideas, improvements, and growth.
Support interviewing and training part-time league staff.
Build and analyze retention reports each season (players, unique players, growth, retention %).
Contact players and KC Performance Rehab after injuries are reported.
Rebuild schedules when locations change or teams have issues.
Staff & Venue Relationship Management
Support part-time staff performance, accountability, and development.
Build strong relationships with venue partners, bar partners, and seasonal collaborators.
Daily Responsibilities
Review previous night scores and follow up on missing ones.
Prep leagues for the day -- rosters, schedules, and equipment organization across multiple venues.
Manage equipment needs and deliver replacements as needed.
Answer league phone calls and emails... yes, even the spicy ones.
Handle forfeits and find replacement opponents when possible.
Manage rainouts, update platforms, and communicate changes clearly to captains and teams.
Check mail daily.
Keep basketball pinnies clean and ready (the unsung hero task).
Seasonal (10-Week Peak) Responsibilities
Assist with high-volume league creation and consolidation.
Build league plans and help construct all new season leagues.
Create and manage free-agent teams (with seasonal goals).
Build and audit league schedules.
Prepare tournament brackets, prizes, and seasonal content.
Capture social media content (photos, reels, stories, highlights).
Secure a Bar of the Week partner each season + manage existing bar partners.
Support brand partnerships (ZOA, KC Performance Rehab, etc.).
Update light fees with KC Parks and other city partners.
On-Call Expectations
Be on call either:
Two weeknights + every Sunday, OR
Three weeknights.
Half-day Fridays (because we know you're grinding during league season).
Ensure leagues start on time by contacting staff before start times.
Jump in to staff a shift when needed.
What We're Looking For
Experience in league management, sports operations, hospitality, or a related field.
Excellent organizational chops -- chaos doesn't scare you.
Leadership skills with the ability to direct staff and influence players.
Strong communication and people skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends -- leagues run when the city plays.
A proactive problem-solver who can stay calm and decisive under pressure.
