Interior Design Assistant / Junior Designer

STORIE Designs is a boutique, story-driven interior design studio specializing in elevated residential and commercial projects across Jersey City, Hoboken, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We're growing quickly and looking for a highly skilled, detail-oriented designer to join our team and grow with us.

About the Role

We are seeking an Interior Design Assistant / Junior Designer with strong technical skills and refined aesthetic sensibilities. This role blends creative design support with hands-on project coordination, vendor communication, drawing production, and involvement in every stage of our studio's work--from concept to installation.

You'll be working directly with Sarah, our founder and principal designer, and will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the studio expands.

Responsiblities

Produce and revise drawings in AutoCAD (plans, elevations, RCPs, millwork) Create visual presentations, mood boards, and sourcing documents (Adobe Photoshop required) Support material and product sourcing; communicate with vendors and fabricators Assist with project management tasks: scheduling, organizing samples, tracking orders, coordinating with trades Participate in site visits, measurements, and installations Maintain project files, documentation, and internal systems Bring a strong creative perspective while upholding STORIE's refined, narrative-driven design aesthetic

Requirements

1-3+ years of professional interior design experience (strong internships considered) Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop (required) Working knowledge of SketchUp or Revit (major plus) Strong space-planning abilities and understanding of architectural principles Ability to contribute to construction drawings and technical documentation Proficiency in FF&E sourcing, materials, and product selection Strong design eye with an understanding of color, proportion, and materials Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong project management and coordination capabilities Team-oriented, proactive, and eager to grow with a rapidly expanding studio Genuine passion for interiors, storytelling, and crafting meaningful spaces Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field (preferred) Familiarity with industry trends and a refined sense of design aesthetics Candidates transitioning from another professional field who have built strong design skills and learned the required programs independently or through school are encouraged to apply

Compensation & Role Structure

Pay commensurate with experience; $23-$35/hour Role begins as part-time, with the intention to transition into a full-time position within 6 months as the studio grows and project volume increases
