TITLE OF JOB: High School JROTC Army Instructor
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
Senior JROTC Army Instructor
QUALIFICATIONS: Certified by the US Army Cadet Command as a JROTC instructor. Must be a retired US Army Non-Commissioned Officer in the rank of Staff Sergeant through Command Sergeant Major. Must have an associate degree. For the Senior Amry Instructor Position a Captain thought Lieutenant Colonel with a bachelor's degree.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the JROTC /Senior/Army Instructor, Principal, and other agencies in ensuring that the JROTC Program is administered in accordance with law, regulation, and policies; assists with executing the JROTC Department functions of instruction, training, and administration.
Maintains good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body; maintains current regulations, policies, and procedures and maintains contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
Ensures all JROTC classes are conducted using the lesson plans in the current and updated version of the JROTC Curriculum Manager and are taught as required by the approved Master Training Schedule.
Utilizes all available instructional equipment to include computers, LCD projectors, Classroom Performance Systems (CPS), SMART Boards, Promethium Boards, etc.
Conducts a public affairs effort in the local area middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups and other individuals or groups, designed to further the understanding of JROTC, the school and the Army.
Enrolls students in JROTC and supports school officials while executing the curriculum and the integrated and extra-curricular activities.
Directs and participates in community service events with cadets, including weekend duties as applicable.
Prepares weekly training schedules.
Establishes and maintains at least two integrated or extracurricular teams, e.g., drill team, rifle team, raider team, academic team, orienteering team.
Requires frequent weekend duties as directed on extra-curricular event schedules.
Supports and maintains a "Cadet-run" (JUMS) JROTC Unit Management System.
Participates in the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) (summer leadership program) as required by USACC.
Ensures instructors share in teaching responsibilities.
Instructors may teach by expertise and preference in subject areas, rather than strictly by LET levels.
Maintains accountability of all equipment, IAW AR 710-2, including items requiring formal accountability (i.e., air rifles), informal accountability (i.e., clothing) and durable items costing $5,000 or less (i.e., automation, computers, audiovisual), but still requiring property accountability.
Encourages all cadets who are Juniors or Seniors to pursue post-secondary education and to apply for at least one scholarship.
Completes all Army Instructor certification requirements as specified in CCR 145-2, and 5th BDE JROTC Instructor requirements.
Ensures that cadet Service-Learning Projects (SLR) are developed, planned, organized, conducted, and reviewed by other cadets; ensures that SLRs are briefed by cadets to the SAI/AI prior to execution.
Ensures that JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly: current chain of command photos, Cadet creed, core abilities and mission statement are present, and all sensitive items are secured.
Submits required reports, as necessary, in accordance with the required reports listing.
Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours.
Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
Prepare teaching outline/syllabus for course of study.
Develop lesson plans and utilize instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Lecture, demonstrate and use technology and other appropriate learning activities to present subject matter to class utilizing approved course of study.
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Establish and maintain standards of cadet behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Prepare, administer and correct tests; record results.
Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
Assign lessons, correct papers and evaluate presentations.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss cadet's progress and interpret the school program.
Identify needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning challenges.
Maintain order in classroom and on school campus.
Counsel cadets when adjustment and academic problems arise.
Keep attendance and grade records as required.
Instruct cadets in citizenship and other basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations of the school district.
Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
Assume other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds regularly, 50 pounds on occasion), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with BOE policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary is established by salary schedule.
