ABOUT NEW CITY KIDS

New City Kids is a high energy, creative ministry for and with youth in Jersey City and Paterson, NJ and Grand Rapids and Detroit, MI. We are unique in trusting teens with leadership. It is a joyful place filled with laughter and hard work, and has an excellent staff of dedicated adults who love children. We employ local high school students as interns to lead an excellent and unique music- focused after school center and summer camp for children ages 6-13, which provides a platform for a whole host of development opportunities for children. As kids and teens engage New City Kids, we come alongside them and invite them to know the power of the gospel and to become disciples of Jesus Christ.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Job Coach supports the Teen Life Internship (TLI) program at one of our After School Center sites. The Job Coach will work closely with TLI staff to develop TLI programming and disciple the Teen Life Interns (TLIs). This position will directly supervise 15-20 teens in their work performance at the assigned After School Center and serve as spiritual and adult mentor.

SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Steward goals for the Teen Life Internship program \xe2\x80\x93 work with the TLI staff to set, track, and report on benchmarks and goals.
  • Manage TLI Department systems \xe2\x80\x93 work with the TLI staff to ensure coordination of the work schedules of 50+ teens, payroll, training, meetings, and professional development and recreational events.
  • Provide job coaching and administrative oversight \xe2\x80\x93 Supervise 15-20 teens in their work performance as tutors and teachers through live coaching, modeling, training, etc. Document teens\xe2\x80\x99 work attendance, progress towards their goals, disciplinary actions, and performance reviews. Provide oversight and organization to staff projects ensuring quality control for New City Kids\xe2\x80\x99 programming.
  • Provide spiritual and relational support \xe2\x80\x93 Develop relationships with the Teen Life Interns to foster a loving environment in which they feel valued. Develop one-on-one mentorship and discipleship relationships with assigned teens, as well as contributing to overall discipleship strategy and execution.
  • Provide academic and college preparatory support \xe2\x80\x93 Work closely with TLI staff to monitor grades and staff weekly tutoring sessions, support 1 to 2 sessions of SAT class each year, and take on other initiatives to create a culture of academic excellence, including but not limited to school visits with teachers, parents, and administration; college application support; and academic intervention efforts with Teen Life Interns.
  • Special projects and After School Center support - Help as needed to assist with the work of the After School Center; this may include helping lead worship, teaching from the front, taking and assisting with daily tasks. Contribute meaningfully to other special projects, from NCK\xe2\x80\x99s annual fundraisers to special events, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A commitment and ability to communicate the goals and mission of New City Kids, including strong and active Christian faith and alignment with our Statement of Faith and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy.
  • Dedicated team member \xe2\x80\x93 flexible and willing to complete tasks that fall outside one\xe2\x80\x99s job description, and able to make things happen without being micromanaged
  • Emotional maturity \xe2\x80\x93 self-aware, teachable, sensitive to cross-cultural issues, and able to maturely deal with youth from diverse contexts
  • Persistent \xe2\x80\x93 pursues relationships with others with a Christ-like presence; sees goals through to their completion, even in the face of challenges
  • Relational \xe2\x80\x93 enjoys listening and spending time with teens, able to gain their trust and be a professional and mature role model
  • Bachelor\'s degree and driver\'s license is required, as well as one to three years of experience working with high school students
  • Bilingual in Spanish would be helpful, but not required
DETAILS
  • Position type: Full Time
  • Hours: Must be available from 2pm-7pm for programming with additional admin hours provided; a minimum of two evenings required, as well as occasional weekends as needed
