The Job Coach/Employment Specialist will be responsible for assisting participants of The Arc of Anchorage employment program through the successful completion in attaining and retaining employment opportunities in the community. The Employment Specialist will also be responsible, as assigned, to provide extended services to those clients. A Job Coach may work with individuals one-on-one and/or in a small group and also assist them in pursuing goals related to community activities, social interactions, essential life skills, and hygiene tasks.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists in the development and implementation of each individual to be placed in the supported employment services
Assists with gathering all required information for individuals seeking supported employment services through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation(DVR) and associated agency's staff
Provides onsite assessment, training, supervision, and support for individuals placed on job sites according to their ongoing plan
Supports trainees in making job choices, job readiness, applying, and job retention skills
May provide scheduling/coordination for transportation to and from the job site
May confer with the trainee employer to monitor progress and determine supports needed to meet employer requirements and fulfill service goals
May administer, supervise or assist the individual in monitoring their medications and health care needs
Accurately completes note entry and other documentation of the individual's programs and progress
Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Be able to work effectively for and with individuals who have intellectual and behavioral disabilities
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Excellent communication skills, judgment, and a willingness to listen
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Certificate in employment services preferred
One-year experience working with people who experience developmental disabilities strongly preferred
Clearances:
Background checks are as defined by licensing agencies. Current TB test/clearance may require a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance as needed.
Ability to see and hear within normal parameters
Adaptability to a fast-paced environment which includes standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
