Job Summary: Conducts primarily lengthy complex criminal investigations, i.e. homicide, arson, serious assaults, child abuse, and other felonies. Investigations include; interviews of suspects, witnesses, and victims. Searches for evidence of criminal acts. Writes comprehensive and detailed reports of findings and actions. Effects physical arrests and attends required training when necessary. Analyze and corroborate legal and agency documents and records in support of criminal investigations pertaining to complex crime activities. Writes affidavits, warrants, case filing and subpoena for presentation to district attorneys, grand juries, and trial courts. Gives testimony in court and makes recommendations regarding prosecution to district attorneys relating to complex criminal investigations. Collects, analyzes and disseminates criminal intelligence pertaining to know and suspected offenders by gathering information from various sources. Serves as a resource person for other law enforcement personnel in the solution of criminal investigative matters. Establishes and maintains effective lines of communication with other law enforcement personnel, criminal justice system personnel, and command officers. Assist in background investigations and internal investigations as assigned.

Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and be Colorado Post Certified and be a credible witness in court. Pre-employment background check and drug screen required upon offer of employment. Must pass all testing and screening requirements at the time of application. HS diploma or equivalent required, associate\xe2\x80\x99s degree or 2 years relevant law enforcement experience preferred. Specialized criminal investigative training is a plus. $45,156.80-$47,153.60 DOE, full time, full benefits.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (The following are illustrative of essential functions to perform duties and

  • Performs first line and intermediate line supervisory work required to direct activities and
personnel of his/her assigned division. Prepares monthly and yearly reports.
  • Investigates known or suspected criminals or facts of particular cases to detect planned criminal
activity or clues.
  • Frequents known haunts of criminals and becomes familiar with criminals to determine
criminals\xe2\x80\x99 habits, associates, characteristics, aliases, and other personal information.
  • Records and reports such information to commanding officer.
  • Investigates crimes and questions witnesses.
  • Examines scene of crime to obtain clues and gather evidence.
  • Secures evidence until disposed of or released.
  • Investigates suspected persons and reports progress of investigation.
  • Arrests or assists in arrest of criminals or suspects.
  • Completes background investigations on department applications.
  • Prepares assigned cases for court, according to formalized procedures.
  • Testifies before court and grad jury.
  • Assists with investigation of Internal Affairs issues.
  • Performs all other duties as required by the County Sheriff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge:
  • Knows how to investigate crimes and question witnesses.
  • Complete background investigations on department applications
  • Knows how to prepare assigned cases for courts.
Skills:
  • Can read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, profession journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,
customers, and the general public.
Abilities:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram
form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate\xe2\x80\x99s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months
to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
  • Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license required.
  • State Peace Officer Certification required.
  • Firearm Qualification.
  • Fitness Qualification.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands
to finger, handle or feel; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and
arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Employee must possess the physical ability to run
for long periods of duration, if necessary, in pursuit of a suspect. Employee must also possess the agility
to contain and apprehend the suspect once captured. Employee must be trained in the use of
communication equipment, firearms, Electronic Control Board, stun devices, camera equipment, hand
cuffs and leg irons, tactical equipment, bullet proof vest, PR24 Baton or ASP, restraint equipment, fire
control equipment, and O. C. Spray. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather
conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical
parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold;
extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to noisy. The statements contained herein reflect general details as necessary to describe the essential
