The Internal Store Inventory Auditor is responsible for conducting detailed product quantity and inventory audits across all convenience store locations. This role ensures accurate stock levels, identifies shrink and discrepancies, and supports stores in maintaining reliable inventory practices. The auditor plays a critical role in protecting company assets, improving operational efficiency, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Perform scheduled inventory audits at assigned stores, physically counting product quantities across all categories, including packaged goods, tobacco, alcohol, foodservice items, etc.
Investigate root causes of inventory variances and communicate findings to store managers and district leadership.
Audit high-risk categories more frequently (e.g., cigarettes, OTP, lottery, alcohol) to monitor potential loss or mismanagement.
Review receiving practices to ensure vendor deliveries are accurately checked in, invoiced, and stocked according to company SOPs.
Verify that inventory adjustments, write-offs, returns, and damaged merchandise are properly documented and justified.
Monitor product rotation, expiration checks, and storage practices to prevent waste and ensure accuracy in counts.
Evaluate store adherence to inventory control procedures, including backroom organization, labeling, and security protocols.
Document audit results clearly and accurately using company-approved forms or audit software.
Provide coaching and recommendations to store leadership on how to maintain accurate counts, reduce shrink, and improve inventory workflows.
Identify trends, recurring shrink issues, or systemic weaknesses and report them to upper management with actionable recommendations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree in business, supply chain, inventory management, or related field preferred.
Prior experience in inventory auditing, loss prevention, convenience store/retail operations, or warehouse management strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of inventory systems, stock rotation, and retail receiving processes.
Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical abilities, especially with numbers and reconciliation work.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with inventory or POS software and basic Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word).
Ability to work independently, manage a schedule of multiple store audits, and maintain objectivity.
Valid drivers license and ability to travel to multiple locations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift during physical counts.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when handling cases or stock.
Ability to work in all store areas, including backrooms, coolers, and outdoor storage spaces.
