THE OPPORTUNITY
The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is seeking an Intern to join our Human Resources Team. This is the perfect opportunity if you are interested in launching a career in Human Resources with a focus on recruitment and talent development. The selected incumbent will gain hands-on experience supporting the recruitment lifecycle while developing foundational HR skills. The intern will work closely with and be supported by a team of talented and collaborative HR professionals. Reporting directly to the Human Resources Officer, the Intern (Human Resources) will serve as an active contributor to the Human Resources Department and gain exposure to key recruitment and HR functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee engagement, learning & development, and performance management. As part of this internship, you may assist with recruitment outreach, job posting development, candidate communications, data tracking, and projects that enhance the candidate and employee experience from first contact through onboarding.

There is one (1) internship opportunity in the Human Resources Department. This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list.
Internships are limited to 25 hours per week and 960 hours per fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th).
Work schedule is estimated to be approximately 20 to 25 hours a week;
Office Hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Intern staff work flexible hours as established by their respective supervisor. While the Agency is flexible and will strive to work around an intern's schedule, an intern's work hours will vary and be mutually agreeable between the intern and their supervisor. Candidates with availability to report Monday through Thursday are highly desirable.

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is a regional wastewater treatment agency and wholesale distributor of imported water to approximately 950,000 people across 242-square miles in western San Bernardino County. Under the leadership of a directly elected five-member Board of Directors, the Agency is committed to supporting the needs of its service area and safeguarding public health through significant investments in a diverse water supply portfolio, reliable municipal/industrial wastewater collection and treatment services, and other related utility services in a regionally planned and cost-effective manner.
As a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan), IEUA provides supplemental water supplies, primarily via the State Water Project (SWP) for distribution among nine retail agencies. IEUA also replenishes local groundwater supplies with captured stormwater and recycled water produced by IEUA that is later extracted by local water agencies for use as a drinking water supply.

Provide support to department staff in accomplishing human resource management programs including recruitment, training and development, classification and compensation, and workforce development.
Contribute to special projects and new initiatives including research, solicitation, and implementation of new programs.
Provide administrative support to department including filing, prepping material, and managing room calendars.
Schedule trainings, and coordinate facilities and materials for training.
Clearly communicate with Agency staff and consultants to inform, clarify, update, and problem solve important information in support of providing outstanding customer service.
Conduct surveys and performs administrative research.
Perform the full array of duties assigned including professional administrative/technical work on special projects.
Compile data or materials and create spreadsheets, prepare reports, manuals, and publications.
Prepare research in the resolution of administrative or operations concerns/problems.
Provide support to department staff in accomplishing human resources management programs including recruitment/selection, benefits administration, respond to letters and phone calls regarding application and employment processes, and assist with forms completion and answering questions.
Participate in pulling documents and filing information.
Perform other related duties as required.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
Graduation or current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies in an accredited college or university with major course work in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Management, Psychology, Training and Development, Communications, Business or Public Administration/Management, or closely related field. Preference will be given to individuals who are currently enrolled in coursework for any of the aforementioned disciplines.
Candidates with intermediate experience in Microsoft Suite and prior administrative experience are highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles and practices of public personnel administration; principles and procedures of research, basic statistics, methodology and administrative analysis; basic technical and administrative practices and procedures of assigned area; fundamental research and data control methods; principles of data collection, and research techniques and methods; principles of composition, basic report preparation and writing; graphic and tabular presentation of data, modern office practices and equipment including a computer and applicable software; record-keeping and filing practices and procedures; proper English, spelling and grammar.
ABILITY TO: Gather, organize, interpret, and analyze information and data; prepare and interpret tables, charts, graphs, and flow charts; organize, set priorities and exercise sound judgment within areas of assigned responsibility; understand and follow written and oral instructions; prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, correspondence and other written materials; exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, varied and confidential personnel issues and employee situations; organize and maintain specialized files; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work; operate office equipment including a computer and applicable software; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; formulate options and make recommendations.
