Job Description

DESCRIPTION:

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) therapist provides therapeutic services to individuals in an IOP setting, which focuses on mental health and/or substance use disorders. These therapists deliver treatment through group and individual therapy sessions, as well as case management and coordination with other professionals. They also play a crucial role in developing and implementing treatment plans, conducting assessments, and facilitating discharge planning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducting Assessments:


Performing initial assessments, risk assessments, and safety planning for clients entering the program.

Developing Treatment Plans:


Creating individualized treatment plans based on client needs, diagnoses, and program goals.

Providing Therapy:


Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based practices.

Case Management:


Coordinating care with other professionals, including psychiatrists, social workers, and other therapists, and connecting clients with relevant community resources.

Discharge Planning:


Developing and implementing discharge plans to ensure a smooth transition to lower levels of care or independent living.

Documentation:


Maintaining accurate and timely records of client progress, treatment plans, and other relevant information.

Crisis Intervention:


Managing crises and high-risk situations according to established procedures and utilizing appropriate clinical interventions.

Education:


Educating clients about treatment options, coping mechanisms, and recovery resources.

Equipment Operated:


Standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Report problems with IOP vans to the Director of Maintenance and CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Training:



Master's or Doctoral degree in a mental health-related field (e.g., social work, counseling, psychology). Active clinical license (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PsyD, PLPC, PLMFT, LMSW).

Work Experience:



Minimum 2-5 years of experience in mental health or substance use treatment preferred. Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and group therapy models preferred.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of HIPAA policies and regulations Demonstrate compassion: Employee sees people during moments of trauma or crisis, where they and their family are vulnerable or in pain Demonstrate patience: Being patient with people who may have trouble communicating or understanding what is happening is important Ability to work effectively as a team member to communicate clearly, compassionately, and respectfully, with all health professionals, as well as with administrative support staff. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands within the work environment. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, time, and responsibilities effectively, as well as to work independently and with minimal supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public. Actively participates in all quality assurance and performance improvement activities.

Mental & Physical Requirements:



Involves sitting approximately 50 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions. Ability to push people in wheelchairs.
