Job Description

Direct Counsel is representing an AmLaw 100 firm seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Specialist to support its Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Practice Group . This position offers a hybrid work arrangement and may be based in any of the firm's offices, with preference for candidates located in Atlanta, Houston, New York City, or Washington, D.C.
The Intellectual Property Specialist will play a key role in managing the patent prosecution process for assigned client portfolios. This includes maintaining docketing systems, coordinating invention harvesting meetings, and assisting with client communications and project management across a variety of domestic and international filings.
Responsibilities include preparing and filing U.S. patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) , drafting patent prosecution templates and formalities, and assisting with electronic filings through ePCT and other global patent systems. The specialist will also review patent communications for accuracy, monitor for required corrections, and ensure all filings comply with USPTO and international standards. Additional tasks include reviewing issued patents for potential corrections, determining expiration dates, preparing certificates of correction, and maintaining IDS charts and client portfolio records.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role requires advanced organizational skills, a proactive mindset, and familiarity with high-volume intellectual property portfolios, particularly in technical or hard science disciplines.
Requirements:
5+ years of intellectual property experience supporting high-volume hard science portfolios
Thorough understanding of USPTO , PCT , and international patent rules and procedures
Experience with CPi docketing software preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe)
Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
Compensation: $85,000 - $115,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus comprehensive benefits .
Work Arrangement: Hybrid schedule.
