We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Insurance Eligibility Representative to join our healthcare team. This role involves verifying patient insurance coverage, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and supporting the billing and coding processes. The ideal candidate will have experience with managed care, medical office procedures, and a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding systems such as CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding. Prior experience in dental or medical offices, along with familiarity with HIPAA regulations, is highly valued. Responsibilities
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to appointments or procedures
Review and interpret insurance policies using knowledge of managed care and medical coding systems
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations when handling sensitive medical records and patient information
Assist in the documentation of insurance information within electronic health records (EHR) systems
Collaborate with medical staff and billing departments to resolve coverage issues or discrepancies
Maintain accurate records of insurance verification activities and update patient accounts accordingly
Support the review of medical records for proper coding using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards
Stay informed about changes in insurance policies, healthcare regulations, and coding updates relevant to the role
Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries related to insurance coverage
Experience
Prior experience in a medical office setting or dental office is preferred
Knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures
Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10)
Experience working with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information
Office experience demonstrating strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Additional experience in medical billing or coding is a plus but not required
