Position Overview:
The Insulator - Journeyman is responsible for measuring, cutting, fabricating, and installing insulation and protective coverings on piping, vessels, ductwork, and other mechanical systems. This position requires technical skill, precision, and an understanding of insulation materials and techniques used in industrial and commercial environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Insulation Installation:
Measure, cut, and install insulation materials such as fiberglass, foam glass, mineral wool, and elastomeric materials on piping, ductwork, and equipment.
Protective Jacketing:
Fabricate and install aluminum, stainless steel, or PVC jacketing to protect insulated surfaces.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and interpret insulation drawings, specifications, and material lists.
Material Preparation:
Select, handle, and prepare materials according to project requirements and safety standards.
Safety Compliance:
Follow OSHA and company safety procedures, including fall protection and hot work protocols.
Team Collaboration:
Work with Foremen, Journeymen, and other trades to ensure project efficiency and quality.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an Industrial or Mechanical Insulator.
Strong knowledge of insulation materials, installation methods, and industry standards.
Ability to read and interpret drawings and work orders.
Skilled in using insulation tools, cutting equipment, and fastening systems.
Commitment to safety and attention to detail.
Preferred Experience:
OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
Experience working in refineries, power plants, or manufacturing facilities.
Familiarity with energy conservation and heat-loss prevention systems.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in industrial and construction environments with exposure to confined spaces, heights, and varying temperatures. Requires physical stamina and use of PPE, including respirators, hard hats, and safety glasses.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Insulator - Foreman or Project Superintendent. May provide mentorship to apprentices.
