Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

The Ink Associate makes sure inks are mixed and pulled to be prepared for the printing process. They maintain a large library of prepared inks and mix any new ones required as necessary

Attention to detail Excellent eyesight (no Colorblindness) Discerning eye for slight differences in color Can stand for extended periods of time Able to lift up to 50lbs on occasion Memorization of key ink types Basic Computer skills

Description of Typical Daily Job Workflow:

The Ink Room Associate will view the print schedule and then open the production proofs for each job on the list to see the colors required for the job. They will then begin to pull the inks, put them on the queue shelf, and label them per job so that press teams can easily find them. If any inks are low, the Associate will mix more by using the corresponding formula and scale to mix pigments by weight. If a new ink is required, the Associate will find the formula in the Ink Mixing Software and then prepare it according to the recipe and neatly label the container.

The Associate will be responsible for cleaning and storage of returned ink containers as well as general cleanliness of the Ink Department. They will also be responsible for keeping appropriate stock levels of ink and other production supplies, and alerting the Production Manager of any low stock so that more can be ordered in a timely manner as not to negatively affect production. The Ink Room Associate may occasionally be asked to help assist the Pre-Press Manager with other tasks in the department, or to help the Production Manager fill roles on the press floor. There are occasions where long print runs do not require a large quantity of different inks to be mixed, so the Tech is expected to assist others in the shop in any way he or she can.

Opportunities for Advancement:

Ink Department Associate will be able to assist in many aspects of production, including Pre-Press and Printing. By learning the requirements of these positions when stepping out of the Ink Department, the Tech will get hands-on experience that will allow them to move to other positions in the shop.
